For an initial outlay of $15.50 (about £12.00), you can print as many ships as you need. The only other costs are for printing ink, card/paper, thicker board for basing, and optionally a bag of 15mm washers to give some weight to the bases. The files you get are in 3 different sizes. The biggest equate to about 1/1200, but I prefer the smallest which, on measurement, equate to about 1/1800. I recommend light card rather than paper for added robustness. These look really good on a wargame table and, unlike metal casts, don't have fragile masts to bend or break. The PDF files are also layered, enabling you to print your ships with a variety of national flags or print them without any flag so that you can hang flags on them at will (useful when ships are taken prize). Cheapness aside, they will save you hours of painting. With a bit of ingenuity, you can also paint out gunports with a black pen to represent merchantmen or warships 'en flute' that carry troops.
