Been on the hype train since the beta test was going on and I'm loving the game even more now that the full rulebook is out.

The aesthetic Mike went for caught my eye, but one of the best parts of it is you can build your own Verrotwood your own way, it's flexible enough to fit with whatever style you have in mind or already lining your shelves.

The system is simple, approachable, the whole endeavour is aimed at not breaking the bank (which is a must for me in this day and age), and the layers of complexity you can add either from the core rulebook, the free upcoming supplements, or simply your own crazed noggin make it all a pretty engrossing affair.

No, it's not perfect, but one-man, first-time publications of this sort rarely are, in my experience.

I think anyone on the lookout for a miniatures agnostic, light-mid complexity skirmish wargame that plays fast and furious should seriously consider giving this one a try.

I've been playing this a lot. It's such a fun mini game that doesn't require you to go out and buy crazy expensive stuff for it and it's very easy to learn. A few typos here and there but nothing that would dampen the experience. I hope to see more ideas like this in the future.

Some interesting game mechanics, but marred by over-ambitious presentation and lack of attention to detail.

This game could be an interesting, quicker and more affordable alternative to Mordheim (which really seems to be “trending” as of late) and I hope players with more time than myself are able to fill in the blanks.

As is, the rules are poorly written, riddled with typos and grammatical errors, omissions and assumptions. I appreciate the game designer is attempting to rectify the typos, but I feel this ruleset could really shine if it was re-written in a way that reflects the relatively stream-lined play.

The “Folk Horror” theme that’s marketed isn’t particularly prevalent in the game play (with the exception of some abilities called "Rituals" and some fun thematic terrain effects) and I feel this ruleset could be easily adapted to any generic fantasy setting.

I’d be more lenient with my criticisms if this was a “Pay-what-you-want” affair, but considering the asking price, this feels like a rushed Beta draft. Asking for people’s help to finish the project after they’ve already paid for it seems unfair when there’s already so many alternative great and free skirmish rulesets available right now.

Verrotwood does a great job of being a rules-lite system that also gives a lot of room for Narrative depth from the players. This isn't just in the main rules themselves, which uses a d10 Dice Pool system in Face to Face tests versus other players or AI driven monsters. The system allows the player(s) to create their own world by using vague descriptors that you can assign any sort of Gothic, Dark, Deep Forrest Horror ideas upon not just your warbands but items they use, Gods they prey to, Monsters they fight. As with most tabletop minis games, there is a "gimmick" that helps to add to the flavor of the rules and settings. In Verrotwood, your Cult memebers can perform Rituals that can buff them or debuff the oponent. SOme do Direct damage too. These Rituals are also reflective of the God your Cult follows in that when you create you Deity, you can choose the types of RItuals that are avalible to your Cult.

Verrtwood, to me, is a great set of rules for quick, simple, characterful rules for series of linked Missions take your fledgling Cult from Surviving in the woods all the way t being the one true rulers of Verrotwood.

Verrotwood is the game I've been waiting for to kit-bash and build creepy terrain with PURPOSE now! Before, I just did it for fun, but didn't have a game to unite the two hobbies. Verrotwood is incredible atmospheric and I love the "miniature-agnostic" element to it where you can use ANY miniatures to represent your cultists. I love Folk Horror. The story you create within Verrotwood really becomes yours with a good base narrative to start. Creating something that allows ever-expanding creativing is not easy, and the author has a unique story to tell about the making of the world of Verrotwood. The facebook group for this game is super encouraging and kit-bashing like crazy cultists. Lots of inspiration to grab from within that group.

Read through the rules and it's great. Really simple and seems easy to pick up with a low model count. You only need 4 models for your band of cultists, some creep scatter terrain, a few monsters, 3'x3' play area and the free printable tokens. Grab a buddy with 4 of their own, unique, kit-bashed cultists and roll some D10's! I'm excited to play this. Got all my stuff ready to go; just gotta sacrif...i mean, recruit another player!

Solo rules would be awesome and are in the works, according to the author, Mike. He's on the facebook group and is super responsive to questions and comments. Thanks for the great game, Mike!
