A plausible political backdrop against which the author plots out some interesting tabletop scenarios. The imbalances in forces, quality, etc mean that each side has some interesting choices to make and can 'win' by not 'losing' badly.

Personally, I like the use of Google Earth to give an indication as to what the terrain could look like. I agree with the comment made elsewhere that it's a shame cut&paste has been disabled as it will make creating player briefings more awkward.

Although the scalling up of stands from representing platoons to companies is understandable, given the intent to get division(s) on to a table, some compromises have been made in the process. But overall, I think this balances out.

Certainly got me plotting some games for other Modern players.

The scenarios are nice. However, I see the following problems:

  • the PDF contains too much protection, i.e copy and paste is disabled
  • the army lists don't use the format of the original ruleset, but instead a "bathtub" version of them (1:3 scale to the original). However, the scale of the scenarios is larger than these of the original ruleset, so the "bathtub" is understandable.

This looks to be the start of a good game system / series; basically it provides the maps and scenarios for whatever game system you are using. It is designed for Fistful of TOWS 3 Miniature rules, but I have found it works well for World at War (LOF) board game series as well. Both games use counters / figures that represent platoons. In addition to air and ground orders of battle, they also provide available naval forces as well, and while a bit abstract provides just enough chrome to keep the ships interesting without taking away from the ground forces, which are the games main emphasis. Now this game is also playable with GDW's Combined Arms, which is an excellent source of order of battle information but plays less smoothly. I just hope they get more modules out in a timely matter so the entire campaign can be played.
