M-113 Canadian Variants

A very useful booklet if you are interested in Canadian forces. I found the information well laid out, and sufficiently comprehensive. Good value at the price. I may get others in the series too.

M-113 U.S. Variants

Many inconsistencies in the vehicle data. For instance, M113A3 variant does not simulate the applique armor, which has been publicly disclosed to provide 360 degree protection from 14.5mm rounds (however' you can see the applique armor in the vehicle card's photograph). Instead, the M113A3 armor data is the same as the M113A2 and A1 models. This is just one of other data inconsistencies.

Armor Heavy Team / Tacforce II
by Customer Name Withheld [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/08/2016 13:49:05

Basic rules: A much needed update to original Tacforce rules. Brings Tacforce into the 21st century. Lots of good practical game mechanics to use in a miniatures game. Font is difficult to read.

Units & Vehicles: Basic game only includes the original Tacforce units (no M1A2 tanks, AH-64 helos, etc). You have to buy the additional vehicles separately as they trickle out from the publisher. I have bought all the additional vehicle packs to date (latest one is the M-113 series). I like the completeness of the series (XM-1 through M-1A2 SEP for example), but I find the armor values inconsistent (for example, M-113A3 with obvious applique armor upgrade has same armor values as a plain jane M-113A2. BMP-3 has same armor value as earlier BMP models, etc).

General: I would add that most miniature land modern war game rules (I have owned dozens of other ones) seem to suffer from the same problems that I have noted above, due to all the information inconsistencies and incompleteness that abound on the subject. I have yet to see ANY wargame company publish a 5 star modern land warfare miniatures game (Fist Full of TOWs 3 is the best I've seen yet). I appreciate the publisher for making such an ambitious effort, but this is definately not a 4-5 star game.

This game offers a lot of potential and good material for a custom hybrid game (taking the best of all previously owned games and subject material and making your own game with it). I am glad I bought the original rules, as they have lots of good ideas in them. The units, however, require a bit of tweaking to be satisfying.

Armor Heavy Team / Tacforce II

This is a pretty complete rules set, and there are a lot of little details in there about all sorts of little things.

The 133 pages of rules were very detailed, which I usually like, but a poor font and layout made the PDF very hard to read.

I was also kind of disappointed to see only US/USSR units, and nothing modern. No Apache, no BMP-2, no Javelin, nothing it seems that came out after the original TacForce game did (so 80s level). There are also only about 45 vehicles (plus aircraft, helos, AT Guns, and MANPATS) so not a very large selection. The cards aren't easy to put together things, so if you don't have one you will be spending quite a while to make them yourself.

I think if the rules were better laid out, and more/modern units were added, the ruleset would appeal to me a lot more than it does.

For now it'll go into the "archive" section of my hard drive, but I'll keep an eye out for any significant update for it, as it has a lot of potential.
