Blood and Thunder

A rather well-written novel that definitely captures the feeling of the raging second world war accoring to the Dust universe's sci-fi modifications. Besides dipicting mechs bristling with advanced weapons, the iconic kampfaffen and desperate foot soldiers trying to seek out cover in frozen wastes, it also deals with themes of 'identity' and 'growing' in a warzone. A good story, no doubt about that.

However, at some places (too many in my own opinion) it feels a bit childish. Instead of exploring the darkness, the mysteries and the melancholy of the characters, places and motives in the Dust Universe, it falls into something that resembles a teenage action novel. It is still a good novel, but I believe it could have been more.

If you're a warfare-loving teen with a special interest in sci-fi and alternative realities, this is probably a brilliant novel. :)
