Sword Weirdos

Sword Weirdos is the fantasy sequel to the surprisingly popular Space Weirdos. "When will you write a fantasy version?" people asked. So I did. Sword Weirdos is a skirmish wargame that allows you to build stats for just about any fantasy or historical model in your collection. Your model's class and weapons determine its special abilities. With 26 classes and 54 weapons and other pieces of equipment to choose from the possiblities are...a lot. I'm not that great with math.

You’re wondering what makes Sword Weirdos different from other games. Not much! It takes what I like from other games and mashes it all together.

  • Low model count: 5-10 models or so for each side.
  • Use any fantasy/historical minis you have.
  • Short but comprehensive. Everything in one 24 page zine.
  • Minimal tokens, but still a few because I like them.
  • No tape measures or rulers, all movement and ranges are measured with 5” sticks.
  • Uses all your RPG dice (except the d20, d20's get enough love) because dice are fun.
  • A points system, but you shouldn’t worry about it too much.
  • Alternating activations, opposed rolls, Maneuver Points, and random tables mean everyone is involved and rolling dice all the time.
Also includes:
  • A separate 4-page solo rules document. <---coming soon
  • A pdf with tokens, hobby advice, and a warband sheet.

If you like minis games but giant rulebooks turn you off or seem intimidating, maybe give this a shot.

I'm trying to figure out how "quick" works. It seems like it should allow you to make two attacks for the cost of one action point, however the FAQ says that you can't move twice and then attack twice using a quick weapon. So I thought maybe you're only allowed to attack once per turn so Quick allows you to attack more than normal, but the rules seem to indicate that you can attack as many times as you have actions... So I'm confused, as written it seems like quick doesn't actually do anything? Can you clarify please? Thank you, I'm digging this ruleset overall though :)

In 6.3.2 it says "unless otherwise noted a model may take 1 melee attack action with each weapon they are armed with per activation." Quick says, "this weapon may take 2 melee or ranged attack actions per activation."
You always have 3 actions per activation, and each attack always costs 1 of those actions unless you're using a maneuver that allows you to do something different.

Any chance for printer friendly tokens? Black drawings and white background?

Looks amazing so far. Question (for anyone) - I have a 44" square table and the recommended size is up to 36". If I were to scale the 5" stick up to 6", would that significantly alter anything? I'm thinking it should scale pretty well.

I'm sure that would work fine, you can also just start farther in from the table edge.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
