FANTASY BATTLES IN MINIATURE

Thyron Shedrak, supreme commander of the Imperial Army, watched the battle. Seemingly endless rows of green-skinned creatures surged towards the Imperial positions. Huge abominable monstrosities towered above the mass of armor, shields, and spears, wielding gigantic weapons.

The advancing ogres hit the thin line of Imperial footsoldiers; mighty axes and big, double-handed swords struck at shields and armor. The Imperials had to withdraw before the onslaught of the ten foot-tall monsters, but Khaibar Thyron Shedrak hadn’t expected otherwise. When the first ogres broke through the Imperial line, he raised his hand and ordered the Knights of the Order to attack. While the ogres were still rallying, the heavily-armored riders began their charge with couched lances. The trot of the heavy battle-steeds accelerated to a thundering gallop, and moments later the spearhead of the formation clashed into the ogres’ flank.

The age of darkness has begun. The dreadful demon hordes of the Icelords of Isthak, Clanngett’s Orcs, and the barbarian war clans of Thain are assaulting the Empire. Will heroic Knights of the Order and Noble Imperial troops emerge victorious, or will the creatures of the Dark Forces triumph?

Demonworld™ is a game of fantasy battles with miniatures. The easy-to-learn rules provide three levels of difficulty and encompass commanders, formations, terrain, morale, chariots, artillery pieces, dragons, giants, flying creatures, magic, fire, artefacts, buildings, and scenarios. Also included are illustrations and tips for painting your miniatures.

This is the 2nd edition rules. FASA released 3rd edition a few years ago. The big change is that the rules no longer uses hexes. Infantry units are usually 12 50mm x 20mm bases ranked up in formations. It also uses less models per stand. I don't think model scale is a huge issue. You could easily use whatever scale you like. Of course, smaller scales will show more depth and will feel like a mass battle.
I am going to guess all the diehard DemonWorld fans like this edition.... newbs like me are happy with the 3rd edition miniatures / tabletop rules.

I have been reading and re-reading the 1st edition rules. I have noticed that there are some unit cards that are in the core rules but are not in the army books.
Some of the culprits include =
Imperial Arquebuises (They are mentioned in the Empire army book but no card is present).
Orc Guard
Trolls
Imperial Foot Soldiers (they appear as Foot Soldiers in the Empire army book). The stats are identical however.

There are also some Orc artifacts that are unique to the core rules. I assume they are mentioned in the Orc army book but have no card.

This really won't matter unless you decide to buy the Orc or Empire army book and forego the rules. Perhaps your friend has the rules and you decide not to buy them.

It is really odd that the 1st edition rulebooks forgot some cards. Maybe the 2nd edition books corrected the mistakes? After doing some fact checking, 2nd edition appears to be word for word exactly like the 1st edition.

Maybe...See more

Is this the same as http://www.fasagames.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_112_115&products_id=901
Seems to have a different cover and differing number of pages.

If different, which one is the most current?

The one you linked is the current one.

I know it is over a year after you asked and you might no longer care, but in case anyone else sees it and wonders the same.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
