Dominion of Frederick the Great Solo Game

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This the Dominion of Frederick the Great Wargames Rules Solo Game.

This standalone set of rules covers the War of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years War in mainland Europe. It is built on the Dominion of the Spear game system but is a brand new set of rules with appropriate rule changes and new rules. (Its companion set is Dominion of the Claymore, Tomahawk and Talwar which covers the same time period but outside mainland Europe. This is being sold in a separate listing). These are very very simple rules with armies of 3-6 units and a battle can be fought within 10 minutes.

24 historical battles are included ready to play:

Mollwitz 1741, Chotusitz 1742, Dettingen 1743, Madonna dell’ Olmo (Cuneo) 1744, Fontenoy 1745, Hohenfriedberg 1745, Soor 1745, Kesselsdorf 1745, Lobositz 1756, Prague 1757 AD, Kolin 1757, Hastenbeck 1757, Gross-Jägersdorf 1757, Rossbach 1757, Leuthen 1757, Zorndorf 1758, Hochkirch 1758, Güstow (Tornow) 1758, Minden 1759, Kunersdorf 1759, Liegnitz 1760, Torgau 1760, Burkersdorf 1762, Freiberg 1762.

There are also rules to construct your own armies and some simple random tables to generate Imagi-Nations armies. Use figures or paper and pen as there is no measuring (grid used). Uses 2 six sided dice.

This is easily read on a tablet or mobile phone and can be printed as an A5 booklet (click booklet and fit to page in printing options). 44 A5 pages.

Read through the rules and noticed that skirmishers can defeat artillery quite easily. Will have to try out a few games.

Indeed, but Skirmishers at this time were rare at the scale of big battles. Skirmishers can pick off the artillery crews while being in a dispersed formation they are not very vulnerable to artillery themselves.

Just an idea. I know that in the Rules the time scale Is abstract and rappresent a huge amount of time, but I would add this house rule: instead of an immediate death of a unit in case of a hit modify:
Weak unit 1 hit destroyed
Elite or Disciplined unit: First hit spent. Can defend. Cannot Attack. Can be rallied by the general.
Second hit destroyed.
Need fine tuning
Suggestions anybody ?

House rule: before attacking excepțional general can join a Sector giving a+1 bonus to that attacking Sector but It Is risky for the general itself. In case he Is killer the whole line must test not tò collapse

Off the top of my head a couple of possibilities. 1) Give the Allied army some unreliable Prussian units in the Reserve, which are the Prussian units which may or may not arrive. A unit on a grand flank march, that may or may not arrive, but if it does is quite devastating could be classed as unreliable elite disciplined at a cost of 2 points. 2) give the Allied side Prussian reinforcements who arrive in their Reserve from turn 3 (?) onwards, probably with some bonuses but then with a points reduction. I will need to think about it.

If you want to put that much detail into the battle treat is as a mini campaign, for example:
Scenario 1 Battle of Waterloo (early)
Allies: Elite Infantry, Elite Cavalry, Infantry, infantry, infantry
Allies Win go to Scenario 4
French Win quickly go to Scenario 3
Got to scenario 2
Scenario 2: Battle of Waterloo, later in the day
Allies: Elite British infantry, British Infantry, Elite Prussian infantry, Prussian infantry, Prussian cavalry
Allies win go to scenario 4
French Win. Campaign ends allied commander retire to await creation of a grand coalition
Scenario 3: Battle of Wavre (Napoleon links up with Grouchy to take on the Prussians)
Allies: Elite Prussian infantry(2), Prussian infantry(2), Prussian cavalry
Allies win go to scenario 4
French Win. Campaign ends allied commander retire to await creation of a grand coalition
Scenario 4: Retreat from Belgium (Grouchy covers the retreat of the Armee du Nord)
Allies: British...See more

Each army can have only one unit per sector, with more possible in the Reserve.

Quick, simple rules, but I like them and I purchased the whole serie. Great the 7 Years War!
Only One "complaint": I look forward and I Need (addicted now....) tò see ASAP, A NAPOLEONIC SET.
IS IT POSSIBILE? Time? Ant chance to get an answer from the author or tò stat in touch with home for a couple of questions?
For instance: the relevant terrain (the Pratzen e.g.)= +1 defensive bonus.
Not clear Is the flank Attack. Need an example

Advantageous terrain can give a defensive bonus or more rarely a attack bonus. If modelling a specific battle one can also take away a bonus from the disadvantaged unit, such as dismounted French men-at-arms at Agincourt losing their armoured bonus for being in the mud. As for flank attack, each example battle in each set of rules should have an example but simply said if there is combat in a sector and in that sector a unit has no opposing unit then that unit may attack the nearest enemy unit in another sector at normally +1 to the dice roll for an outflanking attack. In this case the attacked unit does not get to attack back.

At this point if you have bought any other of the "Dominion" games - if not why not? - you know what you are getting in terms of rules, fast light abstract solo games, extra quick to set up and resolve. Great for playing while travelling or if you need to resolve campaign battles quickly without having to set up a table and figures.
The real bonus of these newer supplements are the scenarios and in effect the army lists they provide
They do not cost the earth and well worth dipping your toe in, to see what they are like

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
