I have great wealth – a spear, a sword and a fine shield to save my skin.
With these I plough, I reap, I tread the sweet grapes
and am called master of my serfs.
-Hybrias, Cretan mercenary poet, 6th century BC

Create your own mercenary captain, build a warband of about 10 soldiers, and undertake campaigns alongside or against your friends. Bronze Shield, Silver Coin is an ancients wargame you can play with just a couple of sprues of models. Battles shift suddenly as you backstab your friends and get their soldiers to betray them, just like the ancient world! The perfect skirmish game for those new to ancients wargaming or for using your existing models in a new adventure.

Gather your warband, recruit stalwart companions, then venture forth to fight in scenarios based on the oftentimes dirty history of spears-for-hire in the ancient world. The rules are easy to learn but offer deep tactical choices. Games play quick and brutal to briskly move forward a campaign with friends. Mechanics emphasize surprises, shifting loyalties, and memorable moments. Your warband’s loyalty and courage will be undermined by the enemy and influenced by your captain’s fortune.

Whether playing solo adventures, cooperating with friends, or clashing with rivals, Bronze Shield, Silver Coin puts you in the mercenary captain’s sandals. Command your forces wisely and write your name in the annals of history! The ancient world awaits - will you seize the glory?

  • Simple, flavorful rules emphasize maneuvering, backstabbing, and management of your precious silver supply.
  • Characters only have one stat to keep track of, but can be equipped with different weapons and special abilities to distinguish them on the battlefield.
  • Use the Intrigue Card system to disrupt your enemy's chain of command. Bribe their troops into inaction, goad them into charging at an opportune time, or send them fleeing from the fight.
  • Eight scenarios based on the dirty history of ancient mercenaries.
  • More than 20 special abilities to customize your warband.
  • Campaign rules let you chain together games to tell the story of your warband.
  • Solo and co-op rules included.

Another beta tester for Bronze Shield Silver Coin! I had a bunch of fun playtesting this with Raymond and I think the game is awesome. There's lots of little wiggle points between you and your opponent - there's a lot of back and forth strategy that becomes pretty nuanced because of how the intrigue cards and how melee combat works. There's a lot of stuff you can do to swing the battle in your favor. The ability selection of your Captain and Second let you experiment with a bunch of different ways of playing the game that all feel rewarding. The scenarios are really unique - I especially like scenario 8: Slay the Commander. Easy to understand, hard to master. Congrats Raymond on creating an awesome game!

Beta Tester Here for Bronze Shield Silver Coin!

I have had a lot of fun with this table top playing with Raymond to refine and revise the gameplay.

It provides fun table top action for you and your opponents, pitting warriors of times gone past against each other. Armies come with their own brand of leaders, utilizing their unique stats and abilities to give you the edge against your opponents.

Warriors must choose carefully on where to spend your silver during the battle - do you choose to strike the initial blow, or spend it on keeping your warriors engaged?

It supports gameplay for either one off battles as well as providing rules for a longer campaign if you want to take the fight even further.

Intrigue cards help to spice up the game play - bribe your opponent’s army, provide support to your own, or incapacitate a leader with the luck of the draw. These creates dilemmas for your opponents, and can leave them stunned on how to...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
