Rifle Squad: US at Omaha Beach - A Solitaire Wargame

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The D-Day landings took place in World War II on June 6th, 1944. Taking Omaha beach was the responsibility of US soldiers. The main objective was to secure a beachhead five miles inland and to link Gold beach with Utah beach. Just over half the German defenders were battle hardened combat soldiers, and were generally positioned in strongpoints along the coast. In the game, the Player will take control of a single US Rifle Squad consisting of 12 men. The exploits of the Squad can be played out in individual Missions or in a Campaign spanning three Missions, chosen at random on each playthrough. The first Mission will consist of a beach landing, the second Mission will require the soldiers to push inland and the third Mission will require them to take the final Objective for victory. Your task is to use the various Leaders in your squad to maximize the abilities of the men under their command.

The aim of this game is to present a set of clear and easy to read rules, immersive Mission Maps and clear, useful game counters. Individual Missions within a Campaign can be played in around an hour or so, and each one should provide almost endless replayability.

Hi Mike. I picked this up last week. Have yet to give it a try. Looks great and love the improved maps! Was wondering if you might be building on the Ghosts of the Jungle or Hostage Rescue Squad. I love the more one on one tactical scale. Maybe a planetary invasion scifi theme or zombie apocalypse situation. Anyway, keep up the great solo games. We don't all have playmates. Wife is just not that into it..lol.

Good news Mike, I am limiting my purchases (I got out of control last month :) ).
You made the choice for this month.

The release here Rifle Squad Omaha, looks quite good.
Can I recommend Canadians at Ortona? Or British at Arnhem. Maybe Russians at Stalingrad at this design scale.

Or Aussies in the Pacific. Maybe Chindits in Burma.

Thanks Lesley. Yes, I'm hoping to use the system again, and there are definitely plenty to choose from. Thanks for the suggestions. Mike

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
