Battle Wizard Magic Game is a tactical miniatures skirmish game about audacious wizards battling each other. BWMG is miniatures and components agnostic, allowing you to use your favorite miniatures and terrain, and can even be played with standard playing cards or basic land/energy cards from popular card games if you don't want to invest in the components!

Included with PDF version:

  • Black & White PDF
  • Black & White PDF with print-ready spreads for home-printing
  • BWMG 3rd party license + Compatibility Logo assets

  • There's a campaign mode, so you can string a number of scenarios together and gain more Powers as you advance!
  • You will also receive a free compatibility license with your game, so that if you're a game designer or just have an amazing house rule you'd like to see published you can make compatible content and use the BWMG compatibility logo!

You will receive both full color and black & white versions!

What You Need To Play: If you only get the rulebook, then you will need the following components to play BWMG:

  • A fistful of six-sided dice (about 6-10 per player should do).
  • Miniatures, pawns, or meeples to represent your wizards (and minions if playing certain scenarios).
  • 50 playing cards per player, grouped into 5 sets of 10 energy cards (Air, Earth, Fire, Water) at standard playing card size (2.5" ×3.5"—these can be poker cards, basic land cards from Magic the Gathering, energy cards from Pokémon, etc.).
  • An assortment of tokens to represent Burn tokens, objectives, and various scenario-specific features.
  • Some scatter terrain (this can be wargaming terrain, homemade, or even just some salt shakers, knick-knacks, blocks, or the like).
  • A pencil and some index cards (or photocopy / print the stat cards from the rulebook).

Rolling Stats is FAST and randomized. After determining a wizard's Stats, you'll roll 2 random Powers and select 1, and gear up with up to 4 slots worth of Swag.

Each player has their own energy pool comprised energy cards, drawn from 5 piles—each of a different element: Air, Earth, Fire, Water, and Chaos! Cards are used to cast spells by either turning them sideways (Zapping them!) or by placing them onto the battlefield as Walls, Traps, and Wards! If your energy gets Bleached, however, you might have a hard time utilizing spells with elemental effects.

An example of how your energy cards are placed as actual Wall spell effects o nthe battlefield! Wall segments can be moved around (except those pesky Earth walls), and can even be Dismissed later to regain the energy at a later time. The timing of when to reclaim the energy from spell card effects on the battlefield is only part of the amazing strategic depth BWMG affords players.

Much like the fireballs of most fantasy games, the Nuke spell is a long-range area effect offensive spell that deals damage and has different effects based on its energy type! Also, to determine the area of the spell's effects, you just use the area of a playing card!

Perhaps of note, all measurements in the game are done with the sides of a standard playing card (2.5" x 3.5"). Distances are noted as 1S (1 short side), 1L (1 long side), and 1F (1 foot, or 12"). 2L + 2S = 1F! Also, unlike many skirmish games and TTRPGs, movement is not precisely from front-of-base: To expedite play and help avoid miniatures and terrain getting knocked about by our giant meaty mitts, you just place a miniature at the far end of the distance they move (essentially giving them their base size as a free bit of movement).

Ward spells can be a bit finnicky, but can also be extremely strong choices for your wizard's survival! By Zapping 1 energy card, you may place another Unzapped energy card of the same type face-down on the battlefield under your wizard—this is a Ward spell! While warded, the wizard gains Cover (takes half damage) from all enemy spells, and cannot be affected by enemy Push spells (think telekinesis). Other Wards and Trap spells cannot be created over a Ward spell, and Wall segments cannot be created on top of or moved onto Ward spells! You're still a sitting duck for Nuke spells and weapon attacks, but now your enemies have to bring the fight to your territory!

BWMG was Created and Playtested by actual South City Punks & Gamers!

Designed by St. Louis, MO punks and gamers. We play Dungeons & Dragons, Magic the Gathering, board games, and more. We also kick it and get rowdy. This is a game we like to play—fast, strategic, lots of ebb and flow throughout a game, multiple modes (competitive, cooperative, and solo), and easy to learn but difficult to master.

Please share your experiences, wizard photos, and battle reports with us at - in the future we hope to compile everyone's stories and pictures to share with everyone!

This is such a great, thematic skirmish game. Easy to approach but lots of depth. I am glad I got a chance to jump on the crowdfunding for this one and will follow your work at your website, thank you to the team at for the rad game!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
