OK...bought it, printed it and solitaired it. Seems there is no direct link in the rules to go from 1st (or 2nd) sea zone to ashore on a target base. I had to be creative. Also, wasn't sure if a marker with a ship on it (AKA unit) was a 'group' or a stack of units was a group. More creativity. Other than that, it was fun. I wish someone would upgrade the Victory Games Fleet Series...

OK. Time to eat humble pie. I just looked again at the pdf files with both maps and (to my simultaneous delight and disgust) both maps are complete! I guess I need more experience using the PDF file readers at my library. But I did see something else. This is not a complaint, only an observation. Only the carriers are named? Is that right? I couldn't read the name markings on the ship unit PDFs, but I could swear the PLAN flattops are marked (names) with Chinese glyphs. Can't wait to print, cut and play! Sorry about the goof and apologies to David Cheng.

Also, the included commentary about the game should read '...part of an A2 sized map...'. Just saying...

Did anyone who bought 'Dragon At Sea' notice anything odd about the two (2) maps provided? Looked to me like there were only the western parts and no eastern parts. The edges of the map pages had bold lines that I thought to be the outer edges of the entire map. That being the case, the map isn't all there in the PDF file. Comments?

Just purchased. Interested in simulation aspect of game. Would love to know more about the composition of the units. Are the CV units just a single CV or are their escort units attached as well? The 5x4153 US SAG units - what type and how many? The 3x4154 US SAG units - the picture looks like Arleigh-Burke destroyers - is that correct? How many ships in unit? I understand there are about 18 Arleigh-Burke US destroyers in the Western Pacific so is the SAG unit made up of 6 Arleigh-Burke destroyers? I like the fact that the unit composition looks beyond the present including a Chinese CVN which does not yet exist.

Do the aircraft units include those on the CV's or are these aircraft embodied in the CV unit strengths?

Isn’t $15 for 5 pages a bit steep?

that's just the rules. There is a map and counters. Also long rules don't signify quality - they may be elegantly efficient!

I noticed the "sample pic" in the description doesn't load. If you right-click and select "open image in new tab", then you can see it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
