The Golden Age of Piracy: 1718 is an old-school style tactical solitaire board game of action and adventure, with a bit of wargame and RPG elements mixed in. An open-ended sandbox style game where you, as a pirate captain, may choose your own path.

Set in the Caribbean Islands during the year 1718, as a pirate captain, you will attempt to build your wealth by attacking merchant ships and selling their goods, by attacking and pillaging towns, kidnapping or assassinating a town governor or his daughter, gambling in a tavern, and by recovering buried treasure from acquired maps.

The player moves their pirate ship's game counter across the Caribbean map, traveling around and searching for merchant ships to attack, visiting the pirate town of Nassau to buy and sell goods, plus repair the ship. The player may also construct a hidden pirate haven where he may store stolen goods and booty, plus repair his ship at no cost.

Your ultimate goal is to save up enough booty in order to buy your pardon before the Royal Navy invades and shuts down Nassau. Will you succeed, or be hanged for piracy?

The game includes the following components:

- 1 Tables Book (37 pages)

- 1 Rule Book (22 pages)

- 18 Game Mats (A4 / 8.5 x 11)

- 276 5/8 inch (16mm) counters

- 39 Game Cards

- 1 Save Game Log Sheet

- 1 Game Components Preparation Instructions Sheet

- 12 Game Mat Setup Example Images

- 1 DRM Calculator

* Two D10 dice are required to play. However, ten D10 dice are recommeded to reduce the number of rolls during ship combat.

* 10 minute game setup and breakdown times.

* A large size table is required for game setup.

* Total play time to the end is apporoximately 5-10 hours (depending on game length chosen).

* Please be sure to visit the Golden Age of Piracy FaceBook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/377340247048684

With most of the rules integrated into the tables, there is practically no learning curve or rules memorization. And with various ship types, items, numerous pirate captain skills, specialist crewmen, Pirate Governor jobs, random events, a multitude of table modifiers, an almost unlimited number of player choices, The Golden Age of Piracy: 1718 offers high replay value. Whatever path you choose, no two games will ever play the same. Can you save up enough gold to bribe one of the governors in order to receive a full pardon before time runs out?

Any guidelines to use this alongside a miniature wargame focusing on the same era, for the battles?

Jordan, you could probably set up a large map of the Caribbean to use miniatures with the game. As far as ship battles go, that part is fairly abstracted, but you could create your own house rules to make is more detailed.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
