Are you planning to release heavy weapons teams? I'd love to use these for FoW, but as they are with only infantry it wouldn't make for a proper battle.

Hi, I really like this art style much better! If you made this art style for all of your other releases, it would be awesome. I'd really love WW2, Modern Soldiers and Scifi in this slightly more realistic style. BTW..I'm the guy who thought of the thick black outline. Maybe consider creating alternate art styles for your previous digital releases. You would be able to resale the previous minis under alternative art styles (new income stream). The digital styles are not my personal cup of tea...but I still bought them to support your company. I have another suggestion if you'd like to hear it as well.:) I know I have a lot of ideas. The thick border really helped for my Brother Paper Cutter, but actually, my real idea was not to have any white in the border. Now, with the new borders, I have a white border next to the mini. Unfortunately, I just have to take an extra step and bucket fill the white area between the outer border and mini. I actually wanted a full, thick black border with no white between the...See more

Hello ! One comment here : the minis for French soldier displays the uniform used at the very beginning of WW1 ; soldiers' nickname is Piou Piou at the time. The word "Poilus" designates the same soldiers, but with the newly commissionned uniform "Bleu Horizon" a couple of month later ; with heavily bearded soldiers, hence the nickname.

Hey thank you for the awesome information! I had read these kinda things - "At the outset of the war the standard French "Poilu" or "Poilus" infantry unit were basic rifle-armed troops garbed in attire quite similar to their Franco-Prussian war uniforms." As well as these, "Poilus is an informal term for a late 18th century–early 20th century French infantryman, meaning, literally, hairy one." "The word carries the sense of the infantryman's typically rustic, agricultural background" I think because it said late 18th century to early 20th century that it was alright to call them Poilus. My bad at interpreting! I love the info you gave! I'm working on a set of British and Ottoman forces for Fao Landing! We will likely update the file and call them Piou Piou! Thank you! When I do the next uniforms then, would I call them Poilus?

Well, "un poilu" was indeed used for a "a brave man" (including soldiers) for several centuries before WW1, along some other close expessions, like "avoir du poil au ventre" (= to be chest haired), so your source is correct. But from historical perspective, Poilus in a military context is NOW almost universally known as French WW1 soldiers, with the late version of uniform, so if you release minis with this specific one, it would be right on spot. And for the ones you display here, "Piou Piou" would be OK ! It is actually a slang word for "poussin" chick in French, referencing to the young age of most recruits...

Awesome! Thank you for the answer! Another quick question, if you don't mind, of course. Is it a mistake to call the British soldiers for my Fao Landing set "Tommy"? I dressed them according to plates from an old wargaming magazine for early Mesopotamian campaign. Sorry to lean on your expertise, but your Poilus answer was really helpful. Thank you!

British soldiers (on WW1 & also WW2) are indeed nickmaned Tommy (Tommies for plural). If you want to display Fao landing, you can also have British Indian Army minis for British side.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
