STALINGRAD: THE LEATHER FACTORY, 2nd ed. is a solitaire tactical-level strategy game depicting the battle of Kuporosnoye, September 13-15, 1942 between the German 29th Division and the Russian 35th Guards Division at the beginning of the epic battle for the city.  This area was at the southern edge of greater Stalingrad, with a large leather factory along its north side.   In the game, the player (Germans) tries to capture objective hexes and headquarter locations from the Russians (played by the game system).

Stalingrad: The Leather Factory uses a solitaire system that reflects the historical situation but includes enough variability and uncertainty to enhance the fog of war feeling to foster replayability.  The standard game is suitable for novice wargamers.  There are advanced optional rules presented that contain rules that may be “plugged in” as desired to the standard game, to provide a more detailed and challenging game for veteran players.  It was designed specifically for solitaire play, and emphasizes high playability along with historicity.

Scale:  One hex on the map represents about three hundred yards across.  Each game turn represents 12 hours.  Each unit counter represents (roughly) company sized formations or detachments (from the German 29th and Russian 35th Guards Divisions, respectively).  Game length:  Six turns.

There are many complex simulations that allow players to recreate realistic tactical situations covering Stalingrad.  Less available are simple, solitaire games on the topic.  Hence, this title, which approaches the battle from a “design for effect” vantage point. The game is concerned with providing the player with a situation that you, commanding elements of the German 29th Division, must solve the best you can, in circumstances that are inexact and ever changing.

The design stresses “uncertainty” via variable daily orders for the Germans, hidden Russian units, random reinforcements & variable placement, and imprecise victory conditions (which are not knows at the start of the game). These benefit of the solitaire gamer and replayability.  The game’s mechanics and highly playable system will provide repeated enjoyment for east front—and solitaire gaming—fans.

This new 2nd edition provides newly revised rules, optional rules, and completely new components.

FALL OF ROHM, 2nd ed. is an abstract solitaire game depicting this turbulent time in
German political history prior to the Second World War. The player—in the role of National Socialist party leadership—must secure a smooth transition to power when Hindenburg dies. Usually, this means effectively dealing with Röhm and the SA, thus satisfying the Army and winning a path for succession. This updated and revised second edition has 13 pages of rules, small map display, counters, game tables, optional rules, four scenarios, and Designer's Notes.

This edition is similar to the original version, but contains modified mechanisms that increase playability, as well as some new optional rules and scenarios. Players will need a standard deck of 52 playing cards, and one six-sided die to play.

TORPEDO RAIDERS, ADVANCED ED. is a 52-page illustrated book contaning a historical WW2 strategy card game involving torpedo bombers in several early war battles. It is volume 2 of Minden's Battlegame book series.

Torpedo Raiders is a solitaire card game that allows you to recreate famous torpedo bombing missions during World War II. This edition adds advanced rules and scenarios to the standard game, as well as new historical background material. During play, the player flies a single torpedo bomber against the AA/flak of the defender (played by the game system) in a single game, or as part of a larger historical scenario. Besides the game tables and plane ratings provided, you will need a standard deck of 52 playing cards, a 6-sided die, and paper and pencil.

Historically rated aircraft included are the Fairey Swordfish (British), Kate, Betty, Nell (Japanese), and Devastator (American) torpedo bombers.  Standard historical scenarios include Taranto (1940), Bismarck (1941), Pearl Harbor (1941), Force Z (1941), and Midway (1942). Advanced scenarios are provided for each of the stardard five scenarios, which add more options and variation.

Torpedo Raiders requires no set up, minimal space, and plays quickly. If you have access to the game tables and a deck of cards, you can play it most anywhere.  It presents the solitaire gamer with some interesting choices during play.  World War II torpedo bombing attacks create an exciting narrative for a wargame.  With this straightforward solitaire game system, the tension of these daring raids may be brought to life on your tabletop.

NORTH CAPE is a solitaire strategy wargame simulating the Battle of North Cape off the north coast of Norway in 1943, between the German battlecruiser Scharnhorst and British naval forces protecting convoy JW55B. Its rules are those used in Advanced Salvo! European Theater, as modified for this particular engagement. The game uses the Advanced Salvo! system to handle WW2 naval combat.  While designed to be played solo (with the player taking the British side), it can be played by two gamers as well.

The game includes rules, scenarios, a set of ship counters, and Sea Display and Game Table sheet.

It is late December, 1943.  Germany is assuming the strategic defensive, and stemming the flow of convoy supplies to the Soviets is imperative. With Tirpitz unavailable due to damage, Scharnhorst is sent to attack allied shipping.  All that stands between convoy JW55B and the German battlecruiser are three Royal Navy cruisers.  The weather is stormy and dark, and the situation tense.  Additional British forces--including a battleship--move toward the area to help. Will they arrive in time?  What course will Scharnhorst choose? Will the convoy have to scatter? What will happen?

Several What if? scenarios are provided in North Cape, in addition to the historical standard game, allowing Tirpitz to be used, and/or additional Royal Navy warships.  Like other Minden designs, North Cape emphasizes high playability and historicity... and fun.

BONUS:  SALVO! BATTLE OF THE RIVER PLATE, 1939 postcard game is included as well at no extra charge.  Reply solitaire the battle pitting the German pocket battleship Graf Spee versus three Royal Navy cruisers.  Once again, another solitaire wargame.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
