Stargrave: Science Fiction Wargames in the Ravaged Galaxy

In a galaxy torn apart by the Last War, vast pirate fleets roam from system to system, robbing, extorting, and enslaving. Amidst this chaos, thousands of independent operators – smugglers, relic hunters, freedom fighters, and mercenaries – roam the dead stars in small ships, scratching out a living any way they can.

In Stargrave, players take on the role of one of these independent operators, choosing from a range of backgrounds each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and associated powers. Next, players must hire a crew for their ship, recruiting a lieutenant with a unique skill-set and a handful of soldiers, mechanics, hackers, and other specialists. Some captains may even recruit strange alien lifeforms with abilities no humanoid could ever possess.

Once the players’ crews are assembled, they are ready to dive into a campaign. Over a series of games, their crews will have the chance to carry out a variety of missions – recovering lost technology, stealing data, freeing slaves, and fighting back against the pirate fleets. In time, as the crews gain experience, they will become more powerful and hire more talented specialists. The more they grow, however, the more likely it is that a pirate fleet will take note of their activities and come after them!

Would really love these files (and other pdfs) to be non-restricted so I can edit when the errata is updated. Especially, for Stargrave since the Errata is simply a post on FB.

This has quickly become my favorite miniatures game! My friends and I have played about a dozen games over the past week and a half and are having a blast! A simple, but complete system allows for action-packed gameplay without tedious details that fail to add anything substantial to a game. Even building a crew is a quick and easy process that can be done while setting up!

Probably the best skirmish game currently available. A new iteration of the Rangers of Shadowdeep with a fundamentally stable system, offsetting the flaws of Frostgrave; great work.

Not really a iteration of Rangers, as that's a different system.
If anything, it's closest to Frostgrave 2e.

Can the game be played solo?

Yes, it can be. Osprey released a free mini-supplement called "Dead or Alive." It's pretty minimalist, but I'd imagine they'll come out with something more robust down the line. You can find it on their resources page:

Yes, but its not designed as a solo game, it's more of a 'bolt on'.
Iirc the first planned full supplement (as opposed to the mini one Zach mentioned) is meant to be a solo one.

If you want a similar game that is designed for solo olay check out 'Rangers of Shadow Deep by the same author. It's fantasy, but easy to reskin (and has been in the Facebook group).

I have the hard copy of the book. A pdf of the powers would be useful for printing a set of cards. I know they were provided for Frostgrave at some point.

Really enjoying what I'm reading so far, my friends and I are brainstorming crews as I write! Question: Any possibility we could get a form fillable version of the Crew List sheet?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
