Ultracombat Modern

Ultracombat Modern

Bring the frantic action, the individual heroics and the weapons of modern-day combat to your tabletop with Ultracombat Modern. These rules are an easy to play, fast-paced, set of wargames rules for depicting the harsh realities of conflict as it occurs in modern warfare.

As a player, you can choose to play at the Platoon level, Squad level or Fireteam level. The system allows players to select the scale of the conflict they wish to represent. This means the rules work for small tactical Special Forces style games up to more substantial Platoon based combat.

Players are rewarded for using modern tactics, can call in off-table assets and field vehicles up to and including even the most effective Main Battle Tanks (MBT). Ultracombat Modern provides players with everything they need to recreate 20th and 21st-century conventional warfare conflicts, whether real or imagined.

What are the major differences between this system and Skirmish Sangin? Is there a reason I should get this if I already have those rules? What Forces are supported out of the box?

Hi Nathaniel, Its a completely different system. Skirmish Sangin was for individual play and was 1d100 based, UCM runs for three levels, fireteams, squads and platoons and is 1d20 based and is a much simpler game mechanic. The forces in the book are US, Russian and French and British from memory. we do show you how to create your own. check out for more info or to ask questions.

Hi. I have a major issue...the cards special abilities font is way too small. Even if I enlarge the card the font is too small. Can you enlarge it and consider releasing a separate hirez file for the cards. Enlarged, the print is not a good resolution. Thanks

Hi Colin. I appreciate the hirez file. They are definitely better. I have to say I love the ruleset and the work that went into crafting it, but the card font is still crazy tiny. I am not a stickler usually, but this makes the cards almost unusable without a magnifying glass. The cards are integral to the game so that's the issue. I don't want to retype and redesign the cards to play. I don't know if you ever tried printing these but the largest capital letters and numbers are only about 1mm tall, the small letters are .75mm. Even if I increase the size of the card by 150% that's 1.5mm for the largest characters and the cards are so big that I would need special paper just to attempt a print. The smallest font should be the doctrine card my opinion. Please print this for yourself on 8.5x11 inch paper to see or not, what I mean. I know you're the publisher and I don't know what would be required to fix this but I will tell you this is a huge (or tiny) problem that I'm sure other PDF...See more

Thanks! The fix(es) is (are) in! Looks good! I've had a bit more time to scan the book ... and I particularly like the Scenarios provided. They seem to be authentic AND playable, which is often a hard thing to manage. Well done!

There are some layout problems in the file I just downloaded ... page #114 had the header for "Urban Combat" as an Widow at the bottom of that page when the actual section it Heads is on the next page.

On page #115 there is a black box with white text at the bottom of the second column (1d20-Status Damage-Modifier) which seems to be referring to the 'Grenade Damage Table' but has somehow been separated from it and extends into the margin, which doesn't seem to be what would be expected from other Tables and the way they are laid out elsewhere.

On page #117 the 'Urban Damage Status Table' header is at the bottom of the second column (and extends off into the margin and off the side of the page, which seems unintentional), above the 'Urban Combat Modifiers Table' (which is separated by, I guess, an un-needed and possibly unintended, blank line between it and the actual table it refers to) ... this 'Urban Damage Status Table' SEEMS to be related to the table towards the bottom...See more

There was an error in the initial download that has now been fixed and the scenario's are now in the new download available. Those of you that have brought the rules should just be able to download again. If you have issues let me know in

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
