At the end of 8th century AD the first wave of aliens from the North fell upon Britain. The first Normans only robbed and led people into slavery. But over time, the Northerners began to establish settlements and colonize the British Isles. Basically, the Vikings settled in the territory of future Scotland, Ireland and Northern England. In 1014, the Danish king Knut the Great united Denmark and England under his rule. In 1066, the Norwegian king Harald claimed his rights to the English throne and landed in the north of the island with an army. Harald of England defeated the Norwegian army at the Battle of Stamford Bridge, and then hastened to meet his fate in the town of Hastings. A series of sets of game soldiers "Age of Shock" is dedicated to the events of the Early Middle Ages. The ancestors of the French Normans were the Vikings and fought on foot. By 1066, the Normans were 100% Europeans and adopted the military culture of the Franks. The basis of the army is heavy cavalry units in chain mail, attacking from the start. They are supported by foot arrows from bows and crossbows. The spear infantry constituted a significant part of the army of William in 1066. The Breton allies of the Normans are proud of their celtic past, so in the set they are presented as maneuverable medium and light cavalry and infantry. The DBA 2.2 game system offers the following composition of the army: 1Kn (Leader) + 5Kn + 2Sp + 2Ps/Bw/Cbw + 1Kn/Cv + 1Kn/Cv/LH Although the Army of ...

The conquest of England by King of Denmark Knut the Great led to the formation of a unique culture, combining the Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian features. The basis of the English army was the permanent guard detachments (Huskarls) and the land aristocracy (Tans). These warriors were well armed and trained. During danger, a militia (Fird) was convened from peasants. Militias armed themselves and rarely had good weapons and armor. However, it was not just a crowd! The English Fird was able to staunchly fight in close formation when the warriors stood shoulder to shoulder and defended each other, like ancient hoplites. Such a system could withstand the attacks of the Vikings and even horse knights. A small number of archers and light infantry with throwing spears usually supported the Fird p...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
