Army Men: Card Combat is a dirt simple, two player wargame that’s playable with only a handful of plastic Army Men and a pack of standard playing cards.

The game was designed with kids in mind and is a great way to introduce your younglings to the world of wargaming. In pursuit of this goal, the game is built on a simple foundation drawing on the classic card game, War, with the addition of figures and movment. Several optional advanced rules are then presented throughout to add more strategy as players become comfortable with the rules such as Cover, Stats, and Special Abilities.

Army Men: Card Combat also offers a low cost, fast playing wargame option for all ages if you just want a casual, beer-and-pretzels experience that hits all the right nostalgia notes.

Hi Cameron, loving the simple and effective rule set, great for playing with the grandchildren and for a quick solo session, with a couple of modifiers.

One question I have is around hand replenishment. Do you replenish at the start and end of your turn, or just at the end? If the latter, you use a lot of cards in defence, you don't have many left for your active turn. So we replenish twice, but was interested in your view?

Hi, glad you're enjoying the game and especially that it's been fun with your grand kids, that's exactly the type of thing we were hoping it would be used for! Sorry this reply is so late, WGV doesn't seem to notify us about comments :)

To answer your question, we wrote the rules to draw up to five at the end of your turn in order to force some decision making about how many cards to hold onto for attacking - a little bit of a risk/reward element. You're definitely right that drawing before and after a turn provides more options and could make for a more action oriented game and that's a totally legitimate tweak if you have more fun that way. You also mentioned playing with some modifications for solo - we'd love to hear more about that!

Downloaded on a whim, hey they are cheap as chips, hoping for a simple wargame to play with my grandsons, who are getting bored with the stay in the house thing.

Plenty of srmy men around so we gave it a quick go for a hour or so before their meal.
It was a blast, the rules are easy to pick up - even the six year old got them almost straightaway - and we mangaed to play through several games - I do recommend using the 3 and 2 inch measurements rather than card length and I will create some sort of range ruler later.

There are some tactical choices to be made , do you burn through high value cards to move faster, or to fire at a longer dstance, then again if you are in range a low card will not kiil your opponent. Then how about defence using high cards leavesyou open to a mediocre shot/

Best recommendation the kids want to play again , but this time adding the new soldier types. Apart from the kids this is a great beer and pretzels game for the burnt out wargmaer...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
