Battle over Europe is a two-player (with solitaire option) strategy card game of World War II air combat, based upon single plane-vs-plane dogfights occurring in various theaters in the early years of the conflict to the end of 1941. Gamers fly historical allied and axis warplanes in fast and furious dogfights, fighting for control of the sky on a Dogfight Display, using aircraft counters that are maneuvered into position by playing cards from your hand.  Warplanes from Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, and Finland are authentically rated in a variety of categories. The object of the game is to shoot down the enemy.   The game stresses playability and historicity, and uses Minden's standard Battle over Britain game system. The game and all planes are compatible with any release in the series.

Planes are rated in a number of categories, such as speed, aglity, performance, firepower, and damage.  Comparing the strengths and weaknesses of the various aircraft is easy and part of the fun.  (Rated planes included are: Spitfire I, Hurricane I, Battle, Defiant (Britain); Fw-190, Me-109E, Me-110C, Ju-87D (Germany); D-520, MS-406, MV-152, Potez 631 (France); MiG-3, Il-2, LaGG-3, I-16, I-153 (Russia); MC-200, CR-42 (Italy), and Fokker D.XXI (Finland).  Beside standard scenarios, campaign air game include Battle for France 1940, Winter War 1940, Battle of Britain 1940, Barbarossa 1941, and Western Desert 1941.  Gamers must supply a standard deck of playing cards, and a 6-sided die, to play.  Battle over Europe is now available as a PDF download.

In addition, we are including the Solitaire BoB Rules Supplement, which contains standard and optional solitaire rules, enabling gamers to play any game in the series on their own, as either the axis or allied side. The Solitaire Supplement comes with 20 additional rated planes, from a variety of countries (including Britain's Blenheim, Fairey Swordfish, and Seafire; Polish P-11c; German He-111, Hs-123, Storch and Ju-52; Japanese Zero; Australian Boomerang; and Dutch Fokker D.XXI).

Get both Battle over Europe and the Solitaire Supplement--with a total of 40 aircraft counters--at one low price.  Designed by Gary Graber. Published by Minden Games.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
