Like another said, I have a hard time making a purchase at this price point for a game by a new publisher and designer without a track record. I'd be tempted to check them out at closer to half this price, but in a market where established designers and publishers often charge significantly less than this (Ganesha Games, Nordic Weasel, etc.), this is a tough sell.

This looks like a cool set of rules for some quick fantasy/historical gaming. It does seem a little expensive at $15 for a 17 page document, however.

So, author here. I thought I'd drop some errata here for anyone who's interested. I know, I know... errata so soon? But sometimes things get taken for granted or forgotten. Better to put it out in the wild here.

1. Generals cannot hold objectives for scenarios. By the rules, they have to "make way" for a unit to move through them, so you could just "push" them off an objective, but for clarity's sake they just can't hold them.

2. You cannot force a unit "off" the table except through eliminating them with hits. So you can't cause a unit to fall back off the table from their deployment zone on turn 1. Or other wacky hijinks. The unit will just move to the board edge and stop.

Hope that helps/heads off any questions that might arise!

Great game Chris, played with a friend over the weekend, learned and played under 2 hours for first game. Two rules questions came up during gameplay that maybe you can clarify.

1. During unit selection can a player choose to double up on the types of units within a class for example: they are allowed 4 Infantry troops, can they choose to use 4 heavy infantry ? You say that an army can only consist of 11 units in the rules does that mean just one copy of all the units you have in your army packs ?

2. During Melee combat when there are multiple units in combat, how do you determine how to distribute hits: do you have to take each unit declare a target and roll your attacks for each unit separately ? It is a little vague in the rules how melee should be handled when there are multiple units attacking a single target.

I also found that at 28 mm and your scenario table sizes the game was quite crowded, especially for your ranged units since they cannot shoot over the heads of...See more

So glad you're enjoying it, James! To answer your questions:

1. Players are free to choose to double up on units as they like. The army packs just provide you with all the units you'd need. Generally, I've found a mix of units give the best tactical results - but due to model collections or player preference you may want to opt for duplicates.

2. In melees involving multiple units; you just pick a unit, nominate a target, roll to attack and allocate hits. Then proceed to the next unit. Do this until every unit involved has fought.

I found the playing areas to be good for my tastes. It allows things like Light Cavalry to Force March quite far and make big flanking moves or melee battles to happen quickly. But it really depends on your own preferences. I am a big proponent of taking rules sets and adapting them to fit your own needs. If it seems more fun to you and your opponent, tinker away!

Thanks for the quick response. I have one more question, that came up during game play:

If a unit is in melee and after melee it has to move back 3" so it is no longer in melee once the fighting has completed what happens if a unit moves up directly behind the fighting unit, for instance a friendly unit moves right up to the back of a unit fighting in melee ?

It always amazes me how simple rules become complex once you start playing them no matter how clearly or well thought out the rules are.

No problem. In this case, fist I'd say that a unit with nobody behind it should move first. If somehow both fighting units had friendly units behind them, I'd say the units behind has to move back to make way.

Nice, compact set of rules. Played a couple of the provided scenarios solo today. More chaotic than I'd figured, but in a good way :) The art is pretty fun too.

I am interested in these rules because I'd like simple set that I can play with my kids. However, I'd like a little more information before I plunk down $15. Would it be possible to provide a bit more information about the game's mechanics?

Have to agree. $15 for 17 pages that include printable cards seems high without a little more information on the game and the Special Event Cards. How many cards are provided? How does Magic Work? What does a scenario look like?

I've done a little bit of a deeper write up of what you can expect in the pdf here: Hope that helps some!

Any chance of posting a batrep? That would show the gameplay much better.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
