Real Time Wargames Gamebooks aim to inspire new and veteran Wargamers alike with novel sets of rules for a variety of periods. The systems are adaptable to any scale between 2mm & 28mm.

The game covers the brilliant campaign that “Stonewall” Jackson carried out in the Shenandoah Valley in 1862 that so compromised the Union plan to defeat the South in 1862. While the battles were relatively small, thus making them perfect for wargaming the period, they were frequently fascinating affairs.

The Union players can request reinforcements, train their troops, visit Washington and politick. They may even want to advance down the valley in the hope of engaging the Rebels! Depending on how well they do the campaign in the Peninsular might result in the fall of Richmond or the defeat of McClellan.

Scope: The game combines  a set of stand alone divisional level battlefield  rules with a campaign system to fight the valley campaign. The campaign system can play with two to six Union players, while the unpredictable Jackson is controlled by dice. The battlefield rules use key locations to define movement and where combat takes place, emphasise the importance of reserves, rearguards and when to withdraw if necessary. This makes for an enthralling game with many decisions.

Game Aids: 54 page gamebook, Four A4 colour maps of the Shenandoah Valley or two A3 maps for those with an A3 printer,  Sheet of Coloured Counters,Victory Points Chart, Union Table of Organisation, Losses Table, Three “Playing the Tables” Charts, Sheets of Game Money & a Playsheet..

Adding to Gareth's reply below.

Yes the players take charge of the Rebs but to keep them honest and trying to win rather than rol over for an easy US victory, the game has a great solution. If they do well as the Rebs they add to their own reputation and prestige which is just as important (if not more so) than beating Jackson

Excellent product, but should come with a warning, these are not wargame rules as such, there are rules included to fight tabletop battles but the system is abstracted and I would say will not be everyone's cup of tea. However, they do work for the design objectives which is to play the whole thing over a long day oer lazy weekend.
AI takes care of Jackson's forces nad while simple and easy to understand do give the feel of the campaign as time and again the Rebs slip away only to hit back hard.
Players (either solo or up to six) control the US forces, if multiple players each gets a division, but here is the real meat of the game and where the fun is. Yes you are working to defeat jackson, so sound is needed strategy to push him back and send support to McDowell at Fredericksburg. However (as it was historically) at the same time, each general is also vying to boost his own reputation, impress Stanton and Lincoln and finally get that plum job. This is handled by using prestige points to boost your...See more

Hi. The campaign system does utilise an AI system for the Confederates with the players being the Union (each a seperate command). In the tabletop battle system however both sides have human players, with one of the union players being the confederates. Gareth

So is the Confederates controlled by the games AI? And the players are Union?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
