Five Klicks from the Zone

Watermarked PDF

The world as we knew it is gone.

Tomorrow may bring a new future.

But first you have to survive today.

* * * * *

Five Klicks From the Zone aims at being the premier solo campaign game for post apocalyptic battles.

Take command of a squad as you fight to reclaim the wasteland for civilization, delving into the forbidden zones, fighting off the horrors of the rubble.

With each mission your squad members will gain experience and new equipment, provided they make it back alive!

Based on the popular engine used in Five Parsecs From Home and Five Leagues From the Borderlands, these rules put solo gaming front and center: The mechanics are designed specifically with a single player in mind, keeping things moving rather than requiring you to memorize lots of special exceptions. All solo information is built right into the game, instead of having to flip to the back of the book all the time. Finally we rely on a straight-forward set of AI guide lines, rather than requiring frequent dice rolling or flow charts to decide enemy actions.

What you are purchasing is the Beta version of the rules.

This offers the core combat engine as well as an extremely simplified version of the full campaign tables and experience.

Over the next several weeks, we will be fleshing out the game with countless updates all of which will be available to you at no charge.

Purchasing the game now grants you the following advantages:

* See all new content and mechanics as they are added.

* Contribute to the development of the game by providing feedback.

* Your purchase entitles you to the full, final version (anticipated to cost 15 dollars) without paying a dime extra.

This way you get the game a bit cheaper by supporting it early and I get additional feedback and play testing so the game will be as good as possible.

As an extra bonus, I am throwing in a copy of Five Parsecs: Salvage Crew.  It'll be available with your purchase.

5 Ticks is about deer season.5
5 bics is about running a razor factory.

I love this naming convention

Will there be options to play Antagonist species/groups? I have this idea of a band of newly sentient toxic slimes in their glorious new world brimming with life-giving radiation, carving out a civilization from the grasp of all those devolved hairless bipeds out there.

Hey Ivan, I just came to see how this version of Five parsecs was going and was pleasantly surprised to find you released it. I'm psyched for the content. I've been hacking your second edition of FP for "stalker"/"roadside picnic" games for a while now. Looking forward to playing!

I'm a sucker for the zombie apoc. Can I use these rules for a modern zombie apoc campaign?

Some elements would work well, but I think you'd have to do a fair bit of hacking to make it work well.
I'll keep it in the back of my mind though and see if i can make it an option or a spin-off.

You should definitely do this! Either as a standalone (maybe: "Five Corpses..."? ;)) or as a supplement to Five Klicks.

While updates won't be daily, I thought I'd get the first update out already since so many people jumped on this baby.
Falling rules have been added.
I've also added the first outline of the campaign structure with some place holders to build upon.

Simply download your file again. If you printed the first version, you probably don't need to print everything again.

A big staple of the post apocalyptic genre is the creation of a base, enclave, or city. Will there be anything like that?

So right now the plan is that missions will build up one of three values for your settlement (Security, Stability, Resources) and as they reach particular levels, you'll get advantages from that.

Maxing out all 3 is how you win a campaign, though you'll be able to start over with some rewards and higher difficulty.

Post Apocalyptic is a very interesting genre... Could be a post WW3 scenario or Aliens trying to enslave mankind or some virus experiments (Zombies!) or "just" a wave of disaster-hits (meteor strikes, pole shift). Being a big fan of TWD I'll surely try if I can use this to play my own episodes... ;)

Yeah, the big challenge is there are so many themes and trying to fit them into one game will be challenging.

Right now, what I am looking at doing is having 3 regions to play in, ranging from mostly mundane to the really out there.

Surely, "Five Klicks into the Zone?"

You know, that would look way better wouldn't it?

"Five Kicks..." martial arts
"Five Licks..." guitar player
"Five Tricks..." stage magicians
The list goes on... ;)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
