If the hit miniatures wargame, Horizon Wars, didn't offer you enough options, then you need Horizon Wars: Over the Horizon!  Not just giant robots, but truly titanic stomping battlemechs; hideous monsters from beyond nightmares; transforming jets; special operations missions; weird science and more!

Over the Horizon also brings players new ways to play, introducing mechanics for battlefield intelligence, and giving players a framework for tournaments (if you have lots of friends who play) as well as solo and co-operative play (if you don't).  This is the definitive companion to Horizon Wars.

Is this the base Horizon Wars rules as well, or just an expansion that requires the base to play? If it's just an expansion, are the base rules on Wargame Vault? I can't seem to find anything other than this and Dark Zero.

Hi, Chris. No, I'm afraid the main rulebook isn't available on WGV or in PDF format anywhere. You can get it on Amazon and from my website at (while stocks last).

I see Horizon Wars is shown as out of stock on your website. Are there any plans to make it available again, preferably in hard copy?

Question for you:
What processes did you use as the basis for the solo/co-op rules? Can you describe in a nutshell how they work? I'm looking specifically for these since my boys and I like to play against the "machine," as it were.

Thanks, Matt

Hi, Matt! Yes, after each of your actions, the player(s) flip a card from a standard deck of playing cards and compare the results to a table which then tells you which enemy element will act and what it will do. Broadly speaking, in solo missions (only one is provided in the rules, but I hope to publish more on my website in due course) it's not about winning or losing. Unless you make some very bad decisions, you'll win. The question is more about how *well* you win.

Convinced me to take a swing at it. It's a solid solo system that could be used for more than just Horizon Wars (which I technically don't own yet). It's a interesting concept to think about a solo wargame in terms of "by how much did you win?" rather than "did you win?" Turns solo wargames into tactical puzzles to try new iterations. Worth purchasing, not dis-satisfied at all. (Horizon Wars is on the way from a cheap source)

It's funny you should say that. My next release, early next year, will be the 28mm skirmish sequel to Horizon Wars, Zero Dark. And this will allow for solo, co-op and PvP play - and the solitaire system I developed for Horizon Wars Solitaire is a slightly simplifed version of the one for Zero Dark. Watch this space.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
