Adventures in Jimland

Watermarked PDF

Adventures in Jimland: Where Anything Can Happen is an adventure game rulebook about exploration and discovery in an unknown land, in a setting very much like late 19th century Africa.  The rules show you how to set up an adventure campaign of discovery and danger.

If you are familiar with Avalon Hill's Source for the Nile, and Dinosaurs of the Lost WorldAdventures in Jimland is rather a cross between the two, a miniatures adventure game played on the tabletop, instead of as a boardgame.

In Jimland, You are a fealess explorer, fitting out members of yur expedition, hiring mercenary soldiers, local askari, and sturdy native bearers to carry supplies.  Then you set off into the unmapped and unknown.

This land of discovery is beautiful, but dangerous.  Your expedition must survive raging rivers, posonous plants, bottonless ravines, and savage beasts:  animals--like elephants, rhinos, gigantic ants, even dinosaurs--are very aline and very hungry.  Native tribes will also be encountered.  Will they trade or attack?  Your expedition must fight through these dangers to reap the bounty of the land.  Discover new species of plants and animals, trade for valuable goods, map uncharted territory.  Then, make it back to civilization to cash in... before heading out on a new adventure.

Adventures in Jimland comes with a 36 page illustrated, digest-sized rule booklet , a sheet of uncut counters, and set of Reference Cards and Expedition Roster sheets.  Extensive examples of play and sample expedition is provided so you will be up and playing the game in no time. The game is complete, and very playable.  It is also versatile, in that it may be played solitaire, or by a group of gamers.  All you need to supply are some dice, paper and pencils, and imagination.  You may use miniature figures and terrain to increase the spectacle of play when resolving random encounters, or simply use the playing counters provided.  Welcome to Jimland... Where Anything Can Happen.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
