Fear God & Dread Nought 2nd Edition

Fear God & Dread Noughtis the Admiralty Trilogy Group’s tactical game covering war at sea from 1906 - 1925. Players can use ships, aircraft, and submarines to fight historical battles or experiment with “almost happened” or “what if” scenarios. While comprehensive, the rules are easy to follow for both experienced gamers and those new to naval gaming. They cover not only gunnery and torpedoes, but aircraft operations and combat, submarine attacks and antisubmarine warfare, and coast defenses.

Emphasizing playability as well as scrupulous historical accuracy, research for the game has involved many of the best naval historians in the world. This second edition improves on the first by taking advantage of the many new historical information sources available, as well as the designer’s deeper understanding of warfare in the first part of the twentieth century.

Fear God & Dread Noughtuses the same format, turn sequence, and terms as the other Admiralty Trilogy games covering the pre-Dreadnought era (Dawn of the Battleship), WW II (Command at Sea), and the present day (Harpoon). Those familiar with any of these games will have no difficulty stepping into command of a First World War fleet.

Purchased and downloaded. The PDF appears to be missing 22 pages. (i.e. there are 108 pages of text, plus the cover, but the 106th page of text is numbered 128)

Daniel, not sure why your pdf version has 128 pages listed. I checked my copy and there are only 109 pages - cover + 108 pages of text. Pages 104 and 105 should be the bibliography followed by three pages of forms. Here's a quick page check:

Cover
Pages 1-8: Title page, Forward, Table of Contents, Index
Chapter 1: 1-1 through 1-3
Chapter 2: 2-1 through 2-9
Chapter 3: 3-1 through 3-9
Chapter 4: 4-1 through 4-5
Chapter 5: 5-1 through 5-13
Chapter 6: 6-1 through 6-23
Chapter 7: 7-1 through 7-10
Chapter 8: 8-1 through 8-12
Chapter 9: 9-1 through 9-5
Chapter 10: 10-1 through 10-6
Pages 104-105: Rules Bibliography
Pages 106 - 108: Forms

I'm sorry your disappointed, Al. See my response to Daniel about the page count. If you are missing pages then we can find out what is going on. As for the American ships, yes, we did removed them from the second edition of High Seas Fleet as they didn't participate in any of the scenarios in the supplement. We changed how we organize our products since forming our own company and we only included the ships that are in the scenario set. We'll be compiling the ships of other nations in separate products like our Command at Sea Fleet series.

Thanks for the response. To be clear, the PDF has 109 pages, as you describe (cover + 108pp. text). My question was, that being the case, why the bibliography has a page number of 127. If it is just a typographical oversight, no worries. I simply wanted to be certain there aren't meant to be additional pages between the last page of rules (10-6) and the bibliography (127).

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
