North West / Royal Canadian Mounted Police Series

Jail and Guardhouse

Interior / Exterior card stock kit

Snowshoe

Period appropriate for 1874 through 1930s

Kit components are appropriate for various fort buildings (1880s) for this period. The kit includes 18 pages of floor layouts, wall textures, accoutrements, and furniture.

Detailed Assembly Instructions included

37 pages of illustrated assembly / customization instructions are provided to assist newcomers to paper modeling in assembling all items contained in the kit.

Removable Interior and Exterior Walls

All walls dovetail into each other to be easily removed without being glued into place. Walls can be removed to facilitate photographing miniatures and game play.

Summer and Winter skins

Summer and winter skins are provided for both the models interior and exterior walls. Additionally, layering can be applied to reveal/hide summer or winter accoutrements such as uniforms and bedding.

Alternate Wall layout

The default wall layout for this kit is the historical structure which is housed at Fort Battleford, Sask. An alternate wall layout is provided which provides more room for miniature gameplay.

1:64 scale

This kit is suitable for 25—30 mm miniatures.

Optional assemblies

Optional assembly options include: masking layers for window insets and wall accoutrements and kit basing options.

Furniture included

The kit contains designs for the following pieces of period furniture: firewood boxes (2), guards sleeping pallet, wooden benches and tables, writing and wash desk, storage cupboards, cell bunks and cast-iron stoves (3)

Ready to print

This kit’s graphic components are ready to print on card stock (in the range of 140 - 170 g/m2). Wall components and various furniture pieces also require 3/16” (.5 cm) thick foam board for assembly.

You will need Acrobat Reader 7.0 (free) to access the graphic layers in this kit.

RCMP Biltmore hat

Two burly red-coated men had a firm hold of Dick Gridley’s arms. They hoisted him up two steps and through the doorway into a brightly lit room. The room was sparsely and strangely furnished: a large pallet in the corner (for sleeping on?); a desk; a chest, wall hangers festooned with canteens, red coats, military cut, other gear and, most telling, leg irons. All the windows were barred.

The red-coats leaned him in the corner between the chimney flue and wooden wall. Dick was still freezing cold, but, being placed close to the wood stove which dominated the centre of the room; he started to stir. He felt nauseous and was sure his head was going to burst. He wavered and then relieved his stomach of the last dregs of bad whiskey onto, what had been, the freshly scrubbed wooden floor.

A much larger red-coated man appeared off to his side. “Bloody hell and damnation! Get him to his cell NOW.” He bellowed and with that the two burly fellows grabbed hold of Dick’s shoulders and dragged him down a narrow corridor and then into a windowless cell where they tossed him on the sole piece of furniture: a blanket covered cot.

They left the cell door open. The larger man, who Dick now saw, had sergeant’s chevrons on his jacket stepped into the doorway.

“Richard Gridley, you are charged with transporting whiskey from the United States into Canadian territories, presumably for sale to the local Indians. You are being held under my guard until you recover to a presentable state. Your trade goods have been confiscated and a fine will be levied against you in due course. It falls upon the Fort Battleford Superintendent to determine if you will be punished further for your violation of territory law.  Your horses are in our care and may be returned to you upon your release. Your cart is forfeit.”

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
