Five Parsecs : Salvage Crew

Watermarked PDF
Suggested Price $9.99

The adventure continues.

With Five Parsecs : Salvage Crew you can try your luck at planetary salvage.

Search crashed ships and alien ruins, deal with hazards and fight off other claimants (and the odd mutant gang or alien critter).

Create a unique crew with character and identity, load them up and set them lose on the universe.

Character creation follows the very popular method from Five Parsecs From Home but with tables adjusted for the types of characters you'll find in the new style of campaign.

Salvage Crew is written for campaign play, allowing you to watch your crew develop and grow (hopefully!) as they survive encounters, learn their trade and loot the universe.

New rules are included for revealing unexpected encounters and scouting the area for bad guys.

The game engine is intended for solo play from the get go:

This means we've avoided complex rules that are easy to lose track of, kept the number of exceptions and special cases to a minimum and all solo play mechanics are integrated directly into the core rules.

No need to flip back and forth between Movement and the Solo mechanics any longer.

Is this a supplement?

No, this is a complete, stand alone game.

You do NOT need anything else to play.

What do I need and what do I get?

All you need to play is a handful of scifi adventurer figures and some suitable enemies to get started. Figures need to be based individually. Scale is up to the player.

The PDF is laid out in single column, for the benefit of screen reading, especially in light of the popularity of ipads and android tablets as gaming accessories.

Note that this version is no longer being developed.

It is offered now as a Pay What You Want title for players who prefer a simpler, stand-alone game.

Players who want the full Five Parsecs experience are encouraged to pick up Five Parsecs From Home and the Salvage Jobs expansion pack.

A really good set of rules, play them as they stand, amend them to taste or use the campaign section to add depth to your own games. Downloaded this version of 5 parsecs to look at and think about and then bought the anniversary bundle. Goes to show that offering a free taster of a rules set works as a promotion.

Is this related to the Salvage Crew/Star Mogul rules that Alphaforge used to put out for their old minis line?

It is not, sorry. Just an overlap in common wording for titles.

When rolling to resolve contacts, do I consider every piece of terrain in sight? ie. Decent size features + Individual terrain features as outlined in the Encounter section?

Cheers mate.

Resolve contacts for any piece of terrain that could reasonably contain something.

I leave out most Individual Features like boulders and barrels.

Ok no problem, thanks for the speedy reply!
Have to say I love this game, it's pitched at exactly the right level for me. Quick Solo games with low rules overhead but plenty of flavor.
Well done, this is not easy to do..

Just bought this and rolling up a crew now - looking forward to giving it a go :)
Noticed a couple of very, very minor typos if you do an update in future; origin table on pg29 has 82-100 entry on bottom of the table (should be 92-100), training table on pg31 has entries for '6-11' and '11-16' so could be a typo, or I guess if you're lucky enough to roll 11 you could pick laborer or researcher :)

Thank you for buying and I appreciate the heads up.

Those two bugs should be fixed tomorrow, unfortunately for any budding labor-researchers :-)

Love the game (just bought 4 Games/Supplements from you). I have a question though, Leads I get from chracter creation (or anywhere else) if I try to use them to get a contract do I have to delete them? Or do I keep my leads until I had success rolling for a contract?

Cheers and thank you very much!

When you roll to Resolve your leads, only delete a Lead each time you roll a 6.

So if the roll fails, you keep all of them.

Is the Game Reference page correct regarding Firing? There are rules about hand to hand and gun combat within 2" that I dont see in the main body of the rules.

The ref sheet is not correct. It’s a holdover from an old version. It will be fixed in 1.03 very shortly. Sorry

I would love to see this specific rule set adapted into a solo dungeon crawl game that can be played with existing dungeon tiles/grid maps. The "points of interest" and "contacts" would work well for that, I think. Sort of DungeonQuest-esque. Try not to die and escape the dungeon with loot.

I bought Five Parsec Gang Warfare, why I should buy this other?
Your books are not cheap, and I am not sure why I should buy this other version. Enlight me, please.

Salvage crew games are more exploratory in nature: You search the table for loot, try to avoid (or engage) possible enemies and manage your debt payments for your starship.

It's a bit less scrappy and grimy than Gang Warfare.

Of course you can move characters back and forth too.

Should you buy it?

You're going to be in one of three positions:

A: Gang Warfare is going to keep you happy with solo gaming for quite a while (or you didn't like it that much).
If so, nah, skip this one.

B: You like Gang Warfare, but down the road, you're going to want more content or new adventures.
If so, buy a copy of Salvage Crew when you're ready for it and have gotten your moneys worth out of Gang Warfare.

C: You love this style of solo gaming and want as many options as possible, right now.
If so, go grab it right now.

I hope that helps!
Whichever way you go is all good. There...See more

Well, now I'll feel guilty if you don't like it :-)

Thank you in any event, let me know what you think.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
