Five Parsecs From Home is back, leaner and meaner than ever before!

Create a crew of randomly generated personalities and see if you can make a profit on the fringes of space. Look for patrons, get into gun-battles and build up your squad.

Five Parsecs is aimed specifically at the solo gamer (though you can play with a friend just fine) and lets you build a crew, take them through missions, gain new equipment and level them up.

Watch your men, women and bug-eyed aliens improve, grow (or die horribly) as you play.

Experience random events and unforeseen circumstances.

Who is this game for?

If you have wanted a Necromunda style campaign experience to play solo.

If you want to play a miniatures campaign in the style of Traveller, Trigun or Borderlands.

If you want a game that is written with solo gamers in mind.

* * * * *

This is a second edition of the original Five parsecs rules. It includes the following changes:

*Completely stand-alone game based on an original, ultra-simple system.

*Stream-lined to make it far more manageable for a single player.

*Solo advice for running enemy forces is included right in the combat rules.

*The game has been condensed to focus on the results that matter. That meant pruning some random tables down.

*Far fewer exceptions and special rules to keep track of.

*We added more optional rules and difficulty settings, allowing the game system to be customized to your liking.

*An economic system allowing you to earn and spend cash.

* * * * *

All you need to play is a handful of scifi adventurer figures and some suitable enemies to get started. Figures need to be based individually. Scale is up to the player.

The PDF is laid out in single column, for the benefit of screen reading, especially in light of the popularity of ipads and android tablets as gaming accessories.

To be print-friendly, all images are grey-scale rather than color.

Should I pick this or Starport Scum which seems to cover similar territory?

If you prefer a more roleplay oriented experience, then /product/188598/Starport-Scum will fit your needs better.

Five parsecs is intended to run with very little interpretation and "game mastering" needed by the player and features more concrete systems.

Is this a supplement?

No, this version is a completely stand-alone game. No other purchases are necesary.

Does the download include reference sheets?

The site has issues with multiple files disabling the previews, so the reference sheets are included in the main game PDF. Simply print those pages and you are good to go.

Care was taken to ensure that the main weapons and equipment tables fit on single pages, to enable easy printing or in-game reference on a tablet.

If you want to continue the adventure, the game is 100% compatible with Salvage Crew (available here ) and Gang Warfare available here

Your characters can transfer between campaigns, creating a never-ending world of adventure.

So if I want a game with space theme and "space magic"...let's say...like Mass Effect. This plus mind bullets supplements could be my thing? or maybe Starport Scumm? Or none?

Mass Effect is a big influence on the "Weasel verse" of scifi :)

Five Parsecs + Mind Bullets will get you there for a small crew of plucky heroes. If you want more traditional warfare, check out Renegade Scout as well.

The Salvage Jobs and Patrol Mission supplements for 5 Parsecs are nice.
Do the Job Opportunity tables in 5 Parsecs have these types of missions? I guess what I mean to ask is: Do I need to put Salvage and Patrol missions in the job opportunity tables in 5 Parsecs tables to be able to get a chance at gaining one of those missions? When new supplements come out, I'm guessing that we need to update the tables, whether it's new loot, new enemy types, new missions, etc. I love the the new extensions for 5 Parsecs, but wonder if I need to go and redo the tables from the main rulebook to incorporate them into a campaign, or just add them along with the existing ones.

Also, are there any tables/charts at setting up random terrain for an encounter? I'm not very good at setting up terrain, so random tables help with that.

Thanks and sorry if this has already been covered.

Also, Vehicle rules. It would add a lot to the game to have vehicles during encounters. Land, sea, and air/space.

Cheers. The Salvage and Patrol jobs are additional opportunities beyond the core rulebook, so you do have to factor them into the flow.
In theory, a "complete" flow for the campaign turn could be created, but it would become very sprawling.

There used to be an expansion for 5 Parsecs called Planetary Generation. Is that still available anywhere? Is it discontinued?

Cheers. I was unhappy with it so parts of it will be incorporated into the rules and other parts will receive a more fully fledged expansion in the future.

Hello, I want to be sure that I have the right version here. My file is called 6parsecsnow, is 88 pages and in color. I was under the (mistaken?) impression the game book was under 50 pages and greyscale.

Cheers and thank you for your purchase. The discrepancy is 3 years of added content, updates and improvements :)

The title of the game file is just a joke when I did the second edition rules.

If an enemy/character is firing (within 1" of) through/over a Linear/Individual terrain towards a figure standing in the open, is that figure in the open considered to be in cover?
"A figure is considered to be in cover for combat purposes if any of the following are true: * Line of sight crossed any terrain feature" suggests that figure in the open would be in cover?

Greetings.
A figure within 1" of a linear obstacle should ignore that obstacle when firing, but this appears not to be clear as written.
My apologies.

Hi Ivan
On page 38 you say upkeep is 1 credit for 4-6 crew plus 1 credit for every crew member beyond 6 but on page 49 you simply say that it's 1 credit per crew member not in the sick.
I assume that the latter is just left from a previous version. Is that correct?

Hi! I just downloaded the current update (version 1.10), which is great--I appreciate being notified about updates. However, I just printed version 1.09 (I'm not able to play from a laptop of tablet), so...is there a convenient way to integrate the changes from the new version(s) with the previous one without reprinting the entire ruleset? Trying to save money and paper here. Thanks!

Cheers mate.

Yeah, I wouldn't print the entire thing! I do put a changelog in the back but it doesn't list page numbers.
I'd say if you read the new terrain rules and then print the page about spending XP, you should have what you need.

"Five Miles From Waterloo" and it currently only exists as a very rough hand-written draft in my notebooks.

It's a common request so we'll do it, but gotta finish the post-apocalypse first :)

A 2 x 2 foot table should work fine. 3 x 3 will be a bit more comfortable though.
Figure about 5-7 figures for the heroes and an assortment of bad guys. A typical fight is 5-6 of your guys vs about that number of enemies.

Do you mean the original or an updated version for the new rules?

If the former, I thought it was in one of the retro-bundles but if not, I can probably dig it up.

If the latter, we're actually working on folding a lot of that stuff into the main game itself but I'm not sure what time frame we're looking at.

Thanks for the quick answer! I meant the content in general, so if you are adding it to the main game that is great news. Will this be an update to the file available here or sold separately? Also, a physical edition would be nice.
Customer avatar
Ivan S May 01, 2019 5:41 pm UTC
PUBLISHER
That depends entirely on how big the changes are.

I am working on an updated character creation process and some other pieces too.

Basically, if the whole thing ends up feeling like a new game, I think it's better to make it a separate product.
If we end up sticking to what's there and just expanding it a bit, then we'll just update the existing file.

It's not really decided yet and it also depends on the future of the separate 5P lines and whether it'd be better to pull them together in one book or not.

Decisions decisions :)

Easily my favorite solo minis game. Just barely edges out Frostgrave and Walking Dead: All Out War.

Gets a lot done with very little.

I suggest adding Rory's Story Cubes or the Mythic GM Emulator to fill in the narrative gaps.

I have this, the compendium, Salvage Crew, and Gang Warfare.

More, please.

If you want to play a range of periods, get fivecore 3.

Hope that helps!

How suitable is this game for co-op play?
Customer avatar

You could play same side with no fuss, by splitting the crew/squad between two players.

All figures activate each turn, so there shouldn’t be any concern there.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
