Stars & Lasers

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Stars & Lasers is a simple set of spaceship combat rules, which are meant to be a fast-play rules system for simulating combat between spaceships of all sizes and any manufacturer, using as little as two ships up to around half a dozen ships per side for a normal game of maybe a couple of hours or so, the system can cope with more ships per side but these games would take longer to play.

The main reason this rule set came about was from my need to play a simple spaceship game with no written orders or slow complicated game play, and with a cinematic feel to the way the models move and act on the table.... and no hexes!!

Can this system be used to play 1 vs many? Like an escape/fleeing scenario as seen in Empire Strikes Back, Serenity, or Star Trek?

Hi Ian, yes it can be used like this and I have played a few games doing just that, it can be very hard for one ship to survive against many but it is fun trying.
A few small ships chasing a big ship would probably be best, keep the points for both sides on a similar level and it should be ok.

Hi Dean, I am glad you like the rules.

I have been looking into doing a short video as it is something that I have wanted to do for a while, I am just not very good at it, but I will practice and hopefully will get one done soon.

Allright, let us say an interested gamer comes across this.
Why should i buy these rules here (they are not that cheap) and NOT take free rules like full thrust, rulebooks that are well balanced and have nice artwork like firestorm armada, or the dropfleet commander rulebook which is also quite at a "similar " price tag, which i get with a nicely looking physical appeal and well written and balanced rules?
What sets this apart? why should i spend my time and money here? What is the pitch?

Hi Felix,
Glad you have shown a little interest in my rules… please download all the free stuff, that will give you some idea of the type of game it is, or even look at some of the battle reports on my site www.littlewargamingworlds.com they also will show you what it is like, either way you could use all the scenarios for your preferred game system.

“What is the pitch?” not really sure what I can say to make your mind up for you, so all I can do is tell you a little about the game, and its background.

I am not going to run down other games systems to promote mine… I have played many and enjoyed playing them, free and paid for.
But I decided after many many years of playing spaceship battle games like Full Thrust, and Firestorm Armada, and even a few games of Dropfleet, and many others over the years, not many are balanced! or should I say players can un-balance them.
Or they felt overly complicated when all I wanted to do was play a fun game that was quick to...See more

The full-size preview says nothing... only 3 pages.
Is it possible to expand this with more of the good stuff (2-3 rules pages, ship-data, grafics etc.) ?

I have adjusted the review pages slightly to show an example and explanation of the ships data sheet, I have tried to show examples from different sections of the rules but it is not possible here, but if you email me at starsandlasers@hotmail.com I could email a couple of example ship data sheets to you if you wanted.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
