Armoured Strike - Wargame Rules for Combined Arms Warfare 1950-2000

WELCOME TO ARMOURED STRIKE

Armoured Strike is a set of miniature wargame rules for playing cold war and modern, combined arms land battles. The rules are designed to cover the period from the advent of the guided missile in the 1950s to the advent of the fully digital modern battlefield, around the year 2000.

In most games players will command a battlegroup comprising of a number of companies or battalions and games last a couple of hours and can be played on a 4 foot by 6-foot table using 1/300 scale miniatures.

The rulebook includes all the rules needed to play as well as army lists for the major nations fighting a fictional third world war during the 1980s.

Additional army lists will be made available on the publisher website.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

SEQUENCE OF PLAY

Various sequences and methods of unit activation were considered however it was decided to go back to the classic “I go, you go” sequence as this provides a good way of making the chaos of battle manageable, especially for large numbers of units. The addition of an overwatch system however means that during a players turn, their opponent is not stood idle.

TROOP QUALITY

The quality (training and morale) of troops has been heavily simplified to a single dice roll at the end of each turn for any units that have come under fire and been suppressed. This determines if they fall back, continue fighting or give up, surrendering or leaving the battle area. Although simple this means that even if units are not killed or destroyed, they can as in real life still be put out of the battle.

GROUND SCALE

The approximate ground scale of 1” =50 metres was chosen as it would allow for realistic weapon ranges to be depicted on a reasonable sized table while still allowing for emphasis on manoeuvre and positioning of units.

Looks interesting I'm still thinking if I should get the rules, in the description it says something about 6x4 big table, would the game also work on a smaller table with lots of obstacles (lots of villages, forests and so on)?

Unfortunately I can't find out much about the game as the preview at wargamevault is only 3 pages long, are there different weapon systems and ammunition types (typical for the modern period)?

And does it always have to be a big battlegroup or does it also work with less figures? Since many games do not have something like that, because otherwise you remain under the moral value of the army.

Would be very happy for an answer, have a nice day

What is special about this set of rules? There are many different sets of modern tactical rules. How are these rules different and better?

For me, I just find them easy to play. I like the flow of the game and it really feels intuitive once you start playing.

What is the scale of unit representation? 1 tank = 1 tank? 1 tank = 1 platoon? Something else?

From the rulebook: Each individual miniature vehicle or base of infantry represents a platoon. This allows large formations such as battalions or brigades to be represented on a gaming table without the need for thousands of miniatures. Infantry platoons represent a single platoon of around 40 to 50 soldiers led by an officer.

Hi Rory,

Quick question: what kind of ground scale do you use for weapon ranges and movement? (i.e. 1 cm = 50 meter)

The rule book mentioned a set of markers for the game, but my download did not include them. Nice, smooth system. good to see Recce FINALLY get the importance it deserves. I hope a WW2 version is in the works.

Steven, it looks like the v1.1 file, which I assume is the latest, has the counters.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
