Defiance: Vital Ground

Rare is the Era in which so much power has been concentrated into so few hands.

This is the Chronicle of such an Era.

In the Orion and Perseus Arms of the present day Milky Way Galaxy, the Vobian Hegemony, once undisputed masters of the known universe, struggle against the machinations of its former subjugates, the Meraxillan Sovereignty and Altai Realms, all against the backdrop of an extra-galactic invasion. Within this epic dynamic, the abducted colonies of Earth have coalesced into a Confederacy of States that for the first time suggests that Mankind itself will become ascendant.

DEFIANCE: THE CHRONICLE OF AN ERA

Powered by the Universal Skirmish System™, Defiance: Vital Ground™ is a squad-level game of modern and science-fiction battles for use with 15mm or 25mm miniatures. Within this volume, you will find:

  • Fast-paced rules for fluid, tactical combat. With each attack resolved by just a few die rolls, players will find that how they use their troops is as important as which troops they choose to field.
  • The complete Army Customizer™ force-building tool. A varied, consistent, comprehensive and balanced construction system, the Customizer allows for step-by-step creation of just about any modern or science-fiction army that players can imagine.
  • Four complete army lists, pitched against the backdrop of an engaging and original star-spanning background with strategic and political depth. Each list was constructed using the Army Customizer—no cutting corners or fudging point values.
  • Professional artwork, fiction and graphic design to stimulate the imagination, all in one complete and ready-to-play package.

Welcome to the Defiance Universal Skirmish System™, the game of near future and science fiction tactical combat that lets you modify or even create the strategic setting in which your battles will take place. With force sizes varying from one unit to several platoons, each trooper matters, and the correct combination of mobility, firepower, command and control is crucial to your success.

The U.S.S. Army Customizer is a comprehensive and statistically based force construction tool that literally allows you to design any weapon, any trooper and any army that you can imagine, all the while being assured that your creation will be balanced for play against any other U.S.S. force list. A lot of work and testing went into the Customizer, and we feel that you will not find a more versatile or more balanced universal force construction tool on the market today.

PURCHASER
Hello, I'd like to ask two question. In the army costomization chapter, does the maximum number of frames limit the TOTAL amount of Infantry and weapon frames (e g. if the max is 15 I must divide those 15 between weapons and infantry frames) or does it allow up to that maximum for each of the two categories (e. g. up to 15 infantry frames and 15 weapon frames separately)? Also is this system compatible with other systems you have published?

The limit is 15 standard units, so a combination of infantry/vehicle types.

Defiance is its own system, not shared with other games.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
