Crucible of Force

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Crucible of Force uses the Award Winning Fields of Fire game engine to bring our fast paced, yet accurate play style to the Second World War.  These rules cover European Theater combat from the beginning of the war to the Summer of 1943.  Also included are play charts and other play aids to make your gaming experinece more enjoyable.

The rules cover all aspects of game play, from movement and shooting to command and control, but are written in such a way as to allow the player to design a scenario as simple or as advanced as desired.  Novice players appreciate the easy to understand format, while veterans appreaciate a fast-paced game that maintains real-world accuracy for their historical or what-if scenarios.

Playable at either 6mm or 15mm, Crucible of Force allows you to use the scale you prefer for your game.  Each miniature represents 1 tank and infantry basing is flexible.  The game plays as well for platoon level combat as it does for a battalion.  These rules cover equipment from the USA, USSR, Great Britain, France, Poland, Germany, and Italy.

This is an attractively presented set of rules with a relatively simple system which still accommodates the balance between armour and armour penetration which is key to combat in the era. Units are individual vehicles and foot are based and of a squad/ fire team scale which works well for my 10mm miniatures, but would also work with other smaller and larger scales.
The addition of the PDF version is appreciated - although I did manage to find an epub reader that put the font over the coloured page, the tables within the document were fuzzy. The PDF version overcomes this and I can recommend this as a set of rules for around Company level engagements. Nicely set out, not too complex and capturing the spirit of combat in WW2 with a simple but effective method for dealing with quality of troops. I like these rules.

We are uploading a pdf format tonight. I was under the impression that our publishing division used a pdf for these and I understand the stress epub causes everyone.

I have to agree with the comment above (though i like the rules).

A. The sales info refers to a PDF
B. The E reader format means having to have yet another APP on the PC, the Phone, The Tablet ETC. A drag..... Is there a problem with providing 'either or' to give people the choice ?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
