Squadron Strike!: Second Edition, Complete PDF Bundle

Any Ship, Any Universe, Fully 3D!

If you can think of it, you can build it in Squadron Strike! Squadron Strike uses a streamlined, whole-turn movement variation of the 3D game engine pioneered in Attack Vector: Tactical, on top of the most comprehensive ship and weapon design system ever made for space combat games.

  • The new tutorial leads you through every step of the game, including a gentle transition from 2D to 3D (you never have to play in 3D--all of the ships come in both 2D and 3D formats).
  • our choice of movement modes, from simple, to cinematic, to fully Newtonian
  • Five different types of static defenses
  • A septillion unique weapon systems that you can create with the provided tools

The same tools that are used by Ad Astra Games to print ship system displays (SSDs) are made available to players - you can make SSDs that look as good as ours, and you can export them as 2D or 3D variants.

The Deluxe Edition has a full color rulebook.

This is a combo price of all of the PDFs of the tutorial book, rulebook, setting book, and ship book in the boxed set of Squadron Strike, along with the box miniatures and build-you-own tilt blocks as a separate file.

This product has additional downloadable content; email the publisher and they'll send you a download link.  Wargame Vault doesn't permit outbound links, or the DLC would be linked here.

I am having problems finding the iOS app for the Avid-Assistant? I don't find it when searching the Apple App Store and the link in the text file included in the download just takes me to a page that tries to connect to Apple Music. It just sits on this page and doesn't connect. Please help!

Downloaded the budle and it contains dropbox and drive links to the tools. Upgraded to Libre 7.2 to open the design system spreadsheet it's a massive 48MB and that's because it's so complex; you have no idea how to get a ship output. No working example I could find to generate an SSD from; which would have been better as ending up with a fresh SSD would be a great starter goal. This bundle needs to include a tutorial how to use the design tools as otherwise you have no idea what to do. For example the spreadsheet contains pathnames to files on the authors computer and I don't know how to define those correctly for my setup and what they need to contain?. If there are anything online to help use this design system please let me know. The other assets are good value and you get the full setup for a paper based fleet to play the game. Overall very good value if you don't have it already. I bought it to enhance the Axanar ships to include the missing due to no licence ships but I have no idea at the moment how to...See more

There SHOULD be a Ship Design Manual in the Zip file. Did you see it there?

I just updated the files to the newest rulebook, and included a document with the download links for:

A) The ship design spreadsheet
B) The tool that prints SSDs from XML generated by the spreadsheet
C) Where we play online
D) Our Discord server
E) Both Android and iOS helper apps for your smartphone when playing in person.

Sorry,Ken, I don't see the links for the AVIDhelper apps in the TXT files. Got a spreadsheet, settings manual, and an XML conversion tool.
I found the link in the rulebook but it appears dead.
Registering at Services Ad Astra requires a Registration number, but my PDF copy of the rulebook doesn't have one can I find.

I'm curious how the description for this *still* says, for a PDF only version of the product, that "The same tools... are made available to the players" and then it cryptically disclaims the point of purchasing the product with "This product does NOT come with a registration code for downloadable content."

Read literally for a PDF only purchasable product, this is a donation, since we don't get to download anything. From prior comments it isn't that absurd, but that it *does* exclude the exact thing that the line of text in the product description promises.

And yes, we can back the Patreon for $5, but this reeks of incredibly bad copy editing at best and bait-and-switch at worst.

I own the physical versions of Attack Vector and Saganami Island, so I'm not against supporting the author of a rapidly diminishing niche hobby game, but correct the description already.

In the same box it says "The same tools that are used by Ad Astra Games to print ship system displays (SSDs) are made available to players - you can make SSDs that look as good as ours, and you can export them as 2D or 3D variants." it then says "This product does NOT come with a registration code for downloadable content."

As for myself, I took it as "The Zip file will include the utility" but I don't see it.

I'm not certain why I keep buying their games. This is the second time I fell for it.

Thanks for the heads up, Joseph. It's really unfortunate that they keep back the one thing that would make me buy this game.

If you don't want to buy the physical product, but still want the ship design spreadsheet, I'd suggest backing Ken's Patreon (StarShipsRUs) for a month at the $5 USD level. That will allow you to download the most recent version of the spreadsheet from the Patreon.

Also, if you are unsure as to whether this product is of interest to you, I'd suggest checking out the $5 USD intro bundles that Ken has released for the 2nd Edition and the Traveller setting. These contain the tutorials that introduce the rules over 4-5 scenarios, along with all of the material needed to print and play for these scenarios.

If you want "Star Wars" style "planes-in-space" movement, then the 2nd edition starter kit is the one to go for:
https://www.wargamevault.com/product/171157/Squadron-Strike-Second-Edition-Starter-Kit?manufacturers_id=8922&filters=40110_40201_0_0

If you want vector movement with momentum, then the Traveller quick start is the one to go for:

I would suggest this is something that should be supplied in the description. "You have everything to play, except..." and "If like this set, check out this kickstarter..."

My argument is that this claims "...the same tool as..." is included in this package, but it actually only included in the physical version.

@Daniel M
Appreciate the info! The Patreon says the spreadsheet gets updated quarterly. Will I miss out important changes when I just subscribe just once for a month?

To be honest, I’m not sure. I haven’t used the ship design spreadsheet myself. There is usually a reasonable bunch of release notes with each quarterly release, but i get the feeling that these are addressing edge cases. I think there is a lot of scope for play with what has been released in this bundle. If you are interested in testing the waters with the product, then maybe the $5 starter kits which have the tutorial book and enough material to play a few scenarios would be a good thing. If you like that, then you could spend the money on the full game.

Hi!
I've two questions.

1) Is this pdf bundle complete so that one can play the full game without limitations or is s.th. else needed?

2) "This product does NOT come with a registration code for downloadable content."
Will it be possible to receive a registration code via email after buying the product on Wargame Vault?
I'm from Germany and pdf is the only way to get the game - no boxes and books are sold here. Shipping from US is much too expensive and if the packet is registered at customhouse i'll have to pay an additional VAT of 19%.

Thank you in advance
Daniel

I just uploaded a new rulebook, with instructions on how to get the design and print tools. Plus, the bundle is on sale today. :)

There are now PDFs of the hex maps, and PDFs of origami tilt blocks and PDFs of the box mini sheet.

With those, and the free smart phone app, you can play the game with what's in the zip file. Without the smart phone all, you'll need to download and laminate some play aid cards that are freely available on my web site.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
