Written by veteran game designers Alessio Cavatore and Rick Priestley, Bolt Action provides all the rules needed to bring the great battles of World War II to your tabletop. Using miniature soldiers, tanks and terrain, you can fight battles in the shattered towns of occupied France, the barren deserts of North Africa, and even the sweltering jungles of the Pacific.

Players get to decide which of the major or minor World War II powers they would like to represent, and then construct their armies from the lists provided. Army options are almost limitless, allowing you to build the kind of army that most appeals to your style of play, from heavily armored tank forces to lightly armed, but highly skilled. The choice is yours.  Created as a joint project between Warlord Games, the premiere historical miniatures company, and Osprey Publishing, the leading independent military history publisher, Bolt Action is sure to be the most popular new wargame on the market.

REVIEWS

Having received a review copy of Bolt Action courtesy of Osprey while writing this article, I can confirm it has all of the high production values wargamers have come to expect. The volume is colour throughout with diagrams to explain the mechanisms, plates from Osprey books and top notch painted Warlord figures on diorama-type photos. The WWll rules market is a tough one to crack and is currently dominated by Flames of war, a ruleset geared for tournament play with 15mm miniatures. Bolt Action is therefore taking on the tournament rules market, albeit with rules geared for 28mm figures and smaller forces than seen in a typlical FOW game. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Bolt Action will be published in September and is now being demonstrated by Warlord teams at shows across the country so my recommendation is that you give it a spin and try before you buy. – Miniature Wargames.

A big-thumbs up from me – we shall definitely be giving Bolt Action a try down the club. – Miniature Wargames.

This full colour, 216-page, hardback book is beautifully produced and is a joy to own – most highly recommended. – militarymodelling.com

This sleek, elegant, and simple ruleset is sure to take its place in the historical wargaming community, as it provides a tournament-grade system in a scale not yet seen standardized. – gametrademagazine.com

[…] a very well written, beautifully presented and highly recommended set of wargame rules for the World War Two period. – Airfix Model World

Note: This digital edition includes the PDF and ePub versions of the book.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT if you are looking for the current version of the Bolt Action rules. This is Bolt Action first Edition. The Current edition is Bolt Action Second Edition which was released in 2016. If you look the last time they updated this file it was in 2014.

I am back to eat crow.
I OWN THIS GAME AND LOVE IT.

IT IS NOT A CASH GRAB if your smart.

RPGNOW, SHAME ON YOU. Your pricing is WAY over what I just purchased and received hard copies from Amazon.ca
23.16 cents for the hard cover main book. German Army and US army books were 16.26 each DELIVERED TO MY DOOR.

Couple corrections.
FIRST LETS GET THIS SET RIGHT. I WAS WRONG.
I was wrong about the company Manic owning this game. It is Warlord games.
They did work for GW. they are copying the GW method of doing army books like I said.
BUT....
They are good books, great pictures. and simple yet complex rules and great fluff..
I am sorry for my knee jerk reaction. The high price from RPGNOW for a pdf copy really irked me.

A cash grab in the extreme with all the army books.
Mantic taking a page from their parent company WD.Ya I know they are not wd, JUST ALL THE STAFF FROM THERE.
Put all the armies in one book and stop this OH YOU WANT THE REAL ARMY(power creep) spend 20 more dollars. PER ARMY.
A WILL NOT PURCHASE because of this practice.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
