Fields of Fire

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Fields of Fire(tm) is an Origins Award winning tactical combat miniatures game.  It uses a 1:1 scale, so that each vehicle on the board represents one vehicle in reality.  It can be used for skirmish, company, or battalion level games with equal playability and accuracy.

Join the great tank commanders of history and play scenarios from the Fulda Gap to 73 Easting to the Battle of Baghdad.  With this simple, yet realistic rules compilation, you’ll be advancing across the board with your own tank battalion within minutes!

Rules Set Includes

  • Complete rules for infantry, AFV and Helicopter
  • Reproducible Templates for artillery and rocket barrages
  • Separate Game Aid cards for NATO and Warsaw Pact nations (both for 6mm and 15/20mm)
  • Complete data on Major World Military Vehicles
  • Uses Micro-Armour® or 15/20mm scale
  • Scenarios to get you started

Important features

  • Easy to read and simple charts
  • Templates that are variable in size based on artillery caliber
  • Easy to understand and straight forward rules which eliminate the need for math.
  • Realistic combat model that allows for the simultaneous nature of combat
  • Simplified infantry maneuvers keep large organizations manageable yet accurate
This rules set can also be used with 3mm tanks, however players would need to reduce the distances used by half.  All other charts would stay the same.  This rules set does not include specific charts for 3mm however.

This is a CORE rulebook.  Future expansions will include:

  • WWII 1939-June 1943 in Europe (due out in 2014)
  • WWII 1944 in Europe (due out in 2015)
  • WWII 1945 in Europe (due out in 2015)
  • WWII in the Pacific (due out in 2015)
  • Movie Monster Madness (due out in 2014)
  • Korean War (due out in 2016)

Any way you can rework the digital version so it can be printed easier? The graphics and colored background just eats ink cartridges.

We have added a second set of the rules with the background removed for printing purposes. The software we created this title in wont allow us to set the layers when converting to a PDF. We will be changing our software on our next publication.

Anyone else having issues trying to print this out?

Tried printing and it processes the job (flattening for everypage ug) then nothing it just disappears from the print queue.

If I plug it directly into our large Ricoh here at work, it prompts me for the PDF password to print.

Any help would be great.

There are point values listed in each army chart. It is listed under the column labeled "BPV" for "Base Point Value." Any other questions about point values and how to use them we would be happy to explain and answer your questions.

I purchased a copy but am having difficulties reading the text. The font used for the body of the rules aren't really legible at 100%-125% and appears blurred or washed-out. However, the text used for tables & charts are crisp and clear.

I have been buying Wargames Vault downloads for years now and this is the only time I am having difficulties with illegible text so I know it isn't me or my PC & iPad.

Have you encountered this problem before? Is there another digital version?

Why is it 11" x 17"? Is there a way to get an 8.5' x 11" copy? It doesn't even take up all the space on an 11x17 page.

On second glance, it seems the document itself might be 8.5x11, but there is are large margins on it, forcing it to print at 11x17. Can this be changed?

I see the issue and we are working to correct this. Should be up in the correct format later today. I believe the software we used formatted it for commercial printing. Thanks for the feedback! We always appreciate information on ways we can improve and help our customers.

If I could provide constructive criticism, this may well be a great set of rules but the description needs work. It does not include some basic and important facts like the ground scale and the unit scale (1:1 or 1: platoon). Also, there are lots and lots of rules that cover this subject. Why is this set of rules different, distinctive and better?

One more note on scale, if you view the preview the scale information is laid out on those pages.

I am also interested in scale and unit scales.
I did try to look at the previews: the Quick preview is too small to read while the Full-size preview is corrupted and won't open or download for me.

How about just telling us the scale and unit scale here?

From the Book: Ground scale in Fields of Fire™ is 1 inch to 50 meters of real ground distance. For Fields of Fire, the basic element used is a team. A team consists of half a squad of soldiers OR a heavy weapons team OR one vehicle. A unit can be as small as a platoon of vehicles or infantry, or as large as a battalion (which would contain both vehicles and infantry). One miniature model represents a single Armored Fighting Vehicle (AFV). Personnel teams are represented by infantry models mounted on a standard sized stand.

Will the "core rule book" be required for the WWII expansions? I only have WWII micro-armor figures, and don't plan on buying moderns.

it will, but there will be a bundle for the first WWII release so that you will get both book together with minimal cost. We look forward to having you play our WWII rules very soon. Have a great day.

Lindsey M., The new WW II rules are out as "Crucible of Force". There are a few updates we need to make in the next week to the current file. Most of them cosmetic. I just wanted to update you that we made the decision to go ahead and include the rule in this book for WW II because we noticed there needed to be some special tweaks to the rules to fit WW II combat. So you can purchase Crucible of Force and be able to play WW II without the need to purchase the modern rules now.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
