ADD TO WISHLIST >

The streamlined tactical combat game of giant armored mecha.

The MechaForce rulebook is a very concise and streamlined 7 pages and gives you details on Mecha Construction, Pilot Advancement, Movement, Firing, Brawling, Conventional Forces, and more. To play the game you will need tokens and a map with a hexagonal grid. You may alternately play with miniatures and model terrain.

This purchase includes both a PDF version suitable for reading on your computer, iPad or iPhone and a special 'PocketMod' PDF version for printing. The PocketMod version lets you create your own  4.25" x 2.75" sized game books from a single sheet of paper. Take a copy to read on the go, and print one to give to each player at the table.

I noticed that tanks can generate heat. This is mentioned a few different times. However, the game never mentions how many heat sinks a tank has?

I love these rules.

The only thing that's confusing me is that 64 build points for a single mech seems excessive.

A mech with super heavy armour, 4 weapons, and speed upgrade, and 10 heat sinks only comes out to 42 build points by my calculation. I can't build a mech that uses up all 64 build points, so it feels like there's no need to even bother with build points.

Am I calculating incorrectly, or severely underestimating how many heat sinks are expected, or is the intent for there to be 64 build points for ALL mechs playing in a game? And if it is for all the mechs in the game, how do the players decide who gets how many build points out of the 64 point pool?

It sounds like you didn't add extra armor. I converted some BattleTech stats to MechaForce, like the Javelin and Thunderbolt. The first thing I did was find how armored each mech was vs maximum armor it could have, and added that to my mechs. The Thunderbolt is nearly fully armored, so it has 75 armor, normal movement, 15 heat sinks, a large energy, a large missile, and three small energy. At that point I ran out of points to add a small missile(SRM-2) and no machineguns (I probably wouldn't add them anyways).

Also, 64 build points is for your entire mech force. Build as many mechs as you like using 64 points as your total budget. In the Mech Construction rules on page 1 The biggest mech, the S. heavy mech (Super Heavy) is limited to 32 build points. That means you can only field two of them in a “basic battle” game of 64 points.

Oh. No. 64 points is the budget for your team. The chart on page 1 shows the max you can spend on a single mech. The biggest of the four types only gets 32 points.

These rules are great! Would you be open to me writing and distributing a simple computer game using them?

My proposal is that I give the game away free here, make no money, pay you no money, but include no rules - players would have to buy your booklet to have all the rules in hand.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
