Greetings Grognards!
Have you ever noticed that one of the hardest things about our hobby sometimes is being able to get all of your buddies together at the same time and place to actually get a game going? I know it's a problem sometimes with my local group, people just get too busy to get together to game. And then, I just noticed that our wonderful publishers have been loading up a lot of solitare/solo games lately. Perfect for those times when scheduling conflicts get in the way of getting together with your friends to play game conflicts! So, time for a solo game newsletter! Check them out!
Till next time, good gaming to everyone, and watch your flanks!

Bombs Away! is a tactical-level, narrative-style solitaire wargame using a tables-based game engine simulating the USAAF 8th Air Force precision daylight bombing campaign against Germany during 1942-1945.
As the pilot of a United States Army Air Force B-17 heavy bomber during 1942-1945, your ultimate goal is to complete either 25 or 35 bombing missions inside Germany, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, while at the same time bringing your aircraft and crew home safely. It won’t be easy, but England, America, and all of occupied Europe are depending on you. Don’t let them down!
The game includes the following components:
- 1 Tables Book (37 pages)

- 1 Crewmen Status Sheet
- 1 Campaign Log Sheet
- 1 Bomber Group Log Sheet
- 1 Quick-Start Guide (8 pages)
- 1 Counter Guide (4 pages)

Rifle Squad: US at Omaha Beach
|
The D-Day landings took place in World War II on June 6th, 1944. Taking Omaha Beach was the responsibility of US soldiers. The main objective was to secure a beachhead five miles inland and to link Gold beach with Utah beach. Just over half the German defenders were battle hardened combat soldiers, and were generally positioned in strongpoints along the coast. In the game, the Player will take control of a single US Rifle Squad consisting of 12 men. The exploits of the Squad can be played out in individual Missions or in a Campaign spanning three Missions, chosen at random on each playthrough. The first Mission will consist of a beach landing, the second Mission will require the soldiers to push inland and the third Mission will require them to take the final Objective for victory. Your task is to use the various Leaders in your squad to maximize the abilities of the men under their command.
The aim of this game is to present a set of clear and easy to read rules, immersive Mission Maps and clear, useful game counters. Individual Missions within a Campaign can be played in around an hour or so, and each one should provide almost endless replayability.

Dreadnoughts & Battlecruisers: High Seas Deluxe Edition
|
Dreadnoughts & Battlecruisers: High Seas Edition is a rule book providing a two-player game of miniature naval combat during the Great War (1914-1918). A special Solitiare Module is included in this edition to allow for solo play. In D&B, Players maneuver their fleets on the tabletop (or floor) to recreate actual and hypothetical encounters. The game is played with 1/3000 scale ship counters positioned and moved on the table top; there is no game board. (Players may use their own warship miniatures instead of the counters, if they wish.) Warships from the national navies of Great Britain, France, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Russia, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands have been included. Games are based on scenarios; the scenario will tell you which ships are involved, where they begin the game, and what the conditions for victory are.
During play, ships are maneuvered into firing range, when fire combat may occur, all governed by the rules of movement and combat contained in these pages. The object of the game is to out maneuver the enemy fleet, and inflict more damage on them than they are able to inflict on your own ships.
This deluxe edition is in color, and contains 16 ship counter sheets (including the Baltic Expansion counter sheet with neutral ships from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands). Ship counters have remained black & white, as in previous editions. Over 20 historical and hypothetical scenarios are included.
(The D&B game system is unlike other naval systems published by Minden. For a comparison about the differences, visit the D&B Page at the Minden website.)
It represents the most comprehensive Dreadnoughts & Battlecruisers release ever, with many new features, a solo module, game logs, and new scenarios. This is the first time D&B has been available in PDF format. Designer: Gary Graber. Publisher: Minden Games.
