Update! Now including the "Core Army List" - Take your battles to any pre-powder period!

Seasons of War: Days of the Conqueror is a unit based miniatures game that allows players to represent battles fought in and around the time of Duke William II - the man who would eventually take the English crown in 1066 and be immortalised as 'The Conqueror'.

The rules are designed to be streamlined and easy to learn but also allow players to replicate battle strategies used throughout the period. As you lead your 11th Century army, you will need to outsmart and outfight your rivals whilst maintaining discipline in your own ranks. The season of war is upon you; will you be the conqueror or the conquered?

Seasons of War: Days of the Conqueror is designed as a 10mm unit based, mass combat game, though it can be played very well with 6mm-15mm scale miniatures with some alterations to the unit sizes.

Inside this 82 rulebook you will find;

  • All the necessary rules to allow you to play Days of the Conqueror.
  • Army lists for 5 different armies.
  • 6 different battlefield scenarios
  • A Campaign tree
  • Photocopy sheets of tokens and quick reference guides.

Some info on the core mechanics

Days of the Conqueror is an IGOUGO system, in which all units must perform a discipline test to see what sort actions they can acheive. A failure on the discipline test will result in a rash action which is out of the hands of the controlling player, otherwise the units may perform a simple action (move, charge, shoot) or if the necessary role is made, a complex action which allows actions such as shield walls, forced march and support.

The game uses a poly dice (dice of different types, D4, D6, D8 etc) to differentiate between unit abilities and characteristics, this is most important when it comes to the combat phase, where a better unit with a higher profile will have more access to higher dice - essential for the attack and defence phases.

Another key aspect of the combat phase is 'Fight Strength’; in a bid to demonstrate the sometimes uneven nature of combat and the way a fight can swing from one side to the other. All units involved in a combat total up the various factors in their favour (skills, size, weapon properties etc) in order to build a 'fight strength'.

Once the fight strength of the units on both sides of a combat has been totted up, both players compare the total. The player who has the most points may use the difference in points as re-rolls to spend during the attack and defence phases of the ensuing combat.

To work out the victor, Days of the Conqueror has a combat resolution system that is designed to balance out how well objectives in the game were achieved (if at all) as well as how well each side did at destroying the other's army.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
